My 2000 Ford Lynx just went dead when i slowed down to a traffic light. Heat indicator is at the center. Radiator water was ok. I tried restarting the car, it went through a couple of meters then, engine died again. I decided to park the car and let the engine rest for 30 mins, and then it was ok again. What is the problem with the car?

Replace the speed sensor on the trans that will cause exactly what you describe is happening.

Like Laurie Mack said. It is the inertia switch below the glove box. Here is some funny information. DON'T change the fuel pump first. Interesting fact: I bought the new inertia switch from Ford and the install instructions that came with it said to install the switch in the protected area to the right where the fuses are. It is like Ford knows it was a dumb place to put the inertia switch, but they won't let you know until after you buy a new one. I have read at least 20 other people on here that had the same problem I just had.

That would be the early symptoms until the cam position sensor gives up completely. Mine would shut down after awhile but the duration became shorter and shorter. Had the cam position sensor replaced and had no trouble since. Just curious, I replaced back the old sensor and the car shut down again. The defective sensor shuts down after heating up.
The early symptoms was when the car was barely a month old. It would be sluggish but goes back to normal after pumping the gas pedal. Took three years for the sensor to intermittently fail.
