Reverse light not working. Bulbs have been checked and are working. Possible problems could be bulb housing or engine switch. Car is Ford Escort Estate 1.6, year of make 1996.

Fuses were checked the same time as the bulbs, i have been told that it could be the switch on the engine rather than the bulb housing but the problem is locating it on the engine block itself.

some cars have a 2nd fuse box in the engine area. Usually easy to find. I had a similar prob and thats where I found it after pulling out a lot of hair ;-) also the relays may be an issue. but relays as far as i know are usually designed for major components like a fuel pump or starter etc. I think its a fuse or small chance its a broken wire somewhere between fuse box and lights. let me know what you find :-)

Reverse light not working on 2009 ford escape

First check the bulbs. To many times I have replaced bulbs. If bulbs are good then you have to go to the neutral safety switch. It on the drivers side of the transmission. You have power in, because other things work. Check power out. Usually a purple or purple/white wire. No power out. Replace the switch. Personally, I would just live with it.

Reversing lights not working on my 1.6 ford escort m reg 1994. ive checked bulbs but still nothing. someone told me about a switch but i cant find it. any help please???

There is a switch attached to the gearbox which activates the reversing lamps when you place the gearbox into reverse. This switch has two wires going to it, one wire is an ignition live feed and the other is the feed to the rear lamps. This switch is usually on the side of the gearbox but quite high up towards the top of the gearbox. You can remove this switch with no danger of losing gearbox oil and replace it. Using a test lamp (which you can buy from any auto parts store), connect the end with the clip to the body on a clean area to ensure a good electrical connection and the pointy end to each of the wires on the switch in turn. With the ignition on but the engine NOT RUNNING, one wire should be active and the other will become active when the gearbox is placed in reverse gear. If neither of the wires are active, check fuses etc. If one wire is active but the other does not become active when reverse is selected, replace the switch. If both wires do what they are supposed too, check the wiring from the switch back to the rear lamps and check for broken or disconnected wires. The switch can be accessed from underneath the vehicle. Remember that these tests are conducted with the ignition turned on but THE ENGINE NOT RUNNING....

1993 Ford Escort 4-door: Back-up and license plate lights are out. All fuses checked = okay. All bulbs ohmed out/visual = okay. All other lights are functioning properly (parking, brake, turn, headlight,...

the back-up lights would probably be a bad reverse switch at that point. I'm not sure what could be causing the plate lights if its not fuses or bulbs and all the others are working. I would highly recommend checking your bulbs one more time and look to see if the filaments are smooth or pitted. if they are pitted but otherwise appear to be ok they are in fact burnt out. I have even seen bulbs n that condition ohm out ok but still not work.

Reverse lights do not work

definately check the fuse, if it is good then you need to check the condition of ground in the light bulb sockets, if good then you will have to check the reverse light switch
