I have a 1999 Kia Sportage. Was driving and water and antifreeze flooded the passenger floorboard. The car ran fine other than this. Prior to this happening the temperature gauge on the car kept going up and down.
Heater core is bad. You probably have had to add coolant every so often. Be careful, as I have seen the PCM located below and to the left of the core get wet and then you find yourself with more problems. For now, just bypass the heater core under the hood.
The heater core is under dash on passenger side...leaking coolant from engine to inside car...loss of coolant in engine made temp rise and fall....can be a nightmare to swap out...some can be fairly simple....hope you get lucky...Lee
Sounds like the heater core has a leak. When you get low on coolant, the temp gauge will start to fluctuate.
