Take the wheel back off, and listen while turning the brake disc by hand.
The grinding could be the front wheel bearings.

If you have bleed the brakes after installing the new pads, you should be OK as long as the rotors are not worped or out of specs.

SOURCE: Brakes Squeak and grind - mostly when cold

This is a head scratcher! My first thought is the rotors. They have an oil film that needs to be degreased before being installed. That may be only part of the prob! My guess is that you hit open road in a short time?? The grinding, jack each wheel and rotate by hand, have your helper gently apply the brakes,[just slightly], this should lead you to the prob. Also check for movement in the wheel bearings. Check that the dust shields are clearing the rotor. If all this fails, remove the wheels and check the inside of the rims for any wear marks. This may be ever so slight. This is the best I can come up with at this time! Frankster016

SOURCE: 96 Ranger Grinding Sound Moving Forward

Did you check the rotors to see if they were cracked or 'thin' ? Rotors sometimes get really thin with use.And they can crack. Or as in one case that I know of there was sand between the rotor and the pads. The pads were also new. Removed the gravelly sand and they worked fine.

SOURCE: New brakes still making grinding noise

Sounds like it is your hub bearings.  Jack the car up and check for play in the hub bearings.  More than likely this is your issue and the bearings need to be replaced.  Hope this helps.  Thanks for an honest rating.

Grinding and rubbin when breaking, seems to be getting worse. Only happens when breaking.

Get your brake pads replaced. Sounds like the brake linings have worn down to nothing, and you are now metal to metal on your brakes.

Hello first if you can'tell by the wording of the question I am about to ask I am a woman.. I have a 97 Neon and recently my car started making a noise now what I do know about neons is that the brakes...

Sounds like you know cars better than many others:) How old are your front brakes? Yes new brakes can make noise on any car if cheap parts or incomplete parts are used...Your brakes are actually designed to make noise when they are not right:) The squeal can be the front pads are worn down to the safety sensor...causing a grinding sound that comes and goes...as they continue to wear, they will squeal more frequently. Also as they become dirty...(bad weather) the dirt trapped on the pad to rotor contact area causes this same sound...sometimes a good automatic car wash can clear this up...as the rotors are wearing they can also generate noise, and vibration when you are stopping...The front brake pads and rotors are not complicated to change on your Neon...If you decide to replace the pads...the quietest and cleanest are the ceramic pads...These are available at most parts stores for good prices. Hope this helps:)

Squealing or clicking sound and then next day grinding sound louder when you take foot off accelerator clicking sounds from right side grinding underneath 2002 grand cherokee

Squealing usually indicates that the brakes are in need of replacement. There is a small piece of metal that as the brake pads wear comes in contact with the metal rotor. When the pads get close to being worn away the tab touches the rotor and it squeals. The tab can also click.
When the pads are worn away completely the metal backing comes in contact with the rotor and it grinds. Grinding is bad. It means the car's brakes are metal to metal. This will cause damage to the rotors resulting in an even more costly brake job.
You should have it taken care of ASAP.
I hope this helps.

I changed the pads and roters and i still have a noise like the brake is grinding

How many miles do you have on the Olds? Many people assume just changing the pads on the high miles car and not having the rotors turn its not good idea. Don't get me wrong, it will work and do what its suppose to although if its was me I would have it done. If you were able to replace your pads then you should also be able to take the rotors off. It doesn't cost much to have the rotor turn and its worth having it done knowing that would cured your squealing or grinding problems and also it will make your brake pad last allot longer better stoping and reduce any vibration as long as your rotors is not warp. Since you still feel and hear the brake still grinding it does not sound right. What type of pad did you installed? I hope you did not installed a pad call "life time guaranteed" which its simi metallic pad and it will grind your rotors down to nothing. I called it steel pad and that is what is made off. What you need to do is get the car going at the high speed like 65 mph on the back road some where and apply heavy breaking come to a complete stop, NOTE: unless you have ABS "Do Not Lock the Brakes Up". do this couple of times this will break the pads in and that should solved some of your problems. If you getting smoke comming out from your pad its fine..

Breaks

It sounds like you need to change and brake pads and rotors. You may have worn the pads low enough that the rivet that hold that pads are now up against the rotor. Same goes for the rear if that is where the gringin noise is coming from. Good luck a safe driving

1997 chevy cavalier brake problems

A slick surface has nothing to do with it, it would actually be less of a noise on a slick surface, and if its a wet road, the water acts as lubricant on the pads, it sound like the job was done wrong, a pad clip broke, they did not clean the rotor( bad groves or chips in rotor, may had needed a resurface)
or they did resurface the rotor too good and the pads glazed over and are like to hard surfaces touching.
You need someone to pull the front two tires and inspect the calipers and rotors, someone that knows what they are doing. If the pads are still new and the rotor is slick,(very smooth ) they need to be ruffed up with a coarse sand paper, or the sand disk that mechanics use on rotors.

This sounds like a wheel bering. If you turn left on a bad passengerside bering it growls louder because more pressure is shifted onto it.
