The alarm should be switched by locking and unlocking the doors and from 1981 onwards the tailgate as well,it is set off by oppening the doors tailgate or hood (bonnet if your english or autsralian) check that one of these switches is not faulty failing that the control unit is behind the RHS heating/aircond hose after removing the glove box

this is a good one,as the brakes are straight out of a golf gti 16v,any golf handbook will do.(just undo the bleed nipple, then force the pistons back into the caliper, closing the nipple before you release pressure to stop any air getting in..then clamp the brake pipe.otherwise its just 2x bolts and a spring clip....

Antitheft alarm on our 2001 mercury sable goes off on its own

Get a new car! JK - my 2002 Sable does the same thing. It can be 5 times a day then not for a month, or 2-3 times a day for a week straight. It happens in different locations and different weather and different times of the day. To my knowledge has never done it in my garage at home.
I have not called a dealer. Has anybody ever found the real problem? Could it be in the remote itself? I tried leaving it unlocked at work, but yesterday it went off just as I was reaching toward the door handle.

How do I reset the anti theft so that vehicle will operate again without having to wait a half hour or so? Thank 95 Jeta

What you do is take the alarm out of the system. My 95 GLX had the same problem, and what I did was unhooked the whole alarm system (Located behind the headlight switches and furthest left, inside the car, vent.) You unplug all the connector's to it, and splice the two thick red wires together on the 6 pin connector. Works fine, Mine fired right up after that. No problems.

1984 Porsche 928S The electric seats don't seem to be moving, there is no relay on the chart for the seats. Do the seats only move when the car is running?

The seats should be on fuse 14 fuses numbered from left to right I think the relays are actually under the seats
