LOOK UNDER THE CAR WHERE BOTTOM OF RADIATOR LOCATED YOU WILL SEE A PLASTIC SPLASH SHIELD WITH TWO LARGE WING NUTS HOLD IT IN PLACE.REMOVE SPLASH SHIELD AND YOU WILL SEE THE OIL FILTER. IF IGNITION KEY WONT TURN IN SWITCH MORE LIKELY KEYLOCK CYLINDER BROKEN. OR KEY WORN OR YOU HAVE WRONG KEY IN THE IGNITION SWITCH.
Try turning the steering wheel back and forth as you try to turn the key. I know it should be locked but sometimes kinda using a little force will unlock the ignition switch. I hope this helped you good luck.
TRY ANOTHER KEY YOUR VECHICLE SHOULD HAVE 2 PROGRAM KEYS. TRY THE OTHER KEY.PUT IN IGNITION.TURN ON IGNITION SWITCH FOR 10 SECONDS UNTIL IMMOBILIZER WARNING LAMP BEGIN TO FLASH AN ACOUSTIC SIGNAL IS EMITTED.SWITCH OFF THE IGNITION SWITCH.IF THIS PROCEDURE DONT WORK.TURN KEY ON IN THE IGNITION FOR 60 SECONDS.UNTIL IMMOBILIZER WARNING LAMP FLASHES AND ACOUSTIC SIGNAL IS EMITTED. THEN TURN OFF IGNITION SWITCH.
The key/ignition switch needs to be replaced. Very common in newer GM vehicles. The key either wont turn, wont go in, or the key wont release from the tumbler. Check with a local Chevy dealer to see if there has been a recall issued for this. But you will need to have it serviced regardless.
check the linkage rod between the ignition key switch and the electrical ignition switch itself for movement when you turn the key from off to start. if it doesn't move then you probably have a broken ratchet gear or rack gear in the steering column at the ignition key switch. if it does move that you probably have a bad electrical ignition switch.
Sometimes you can jiggle the steering wheel left and right really hard while trying to turn the key. To change the ignition switch or tumblers you have to remove the steering wheel. Then remove the pressure plate and turn signal switch then you should see the ignition switch. There is usually a pin that you have to pull to release the switch. If I am missing a step it is due to my failing memory. Once you pull the steering wheel, just keep pulling until you get to the switch. Sorry for lack of instuction, I have fibromyalgia and can't remember much anymore. Hope this helps. Best wishes.
have tilt wheel? try unlocking tilt and moving it as you try to turn key..replace key and/or ignition switch if that doesnt work..if it does ..the linkage is damaged in steering column to switch at base
