My son's truck, 1989 S10, 4cyl., stalls out after he drives it a bit and has to cool off before it starts again. He found quite a few error codes: 14,22,25,32,34 and 53. He has replaced the ignition module, coolant temp coil and spark plugs and wires. where should he look now?

Would the fuel pump or regulator cause this kind of stalling when it's hot?

  • Ginny Larson May 24, 2014

yes it would. I would change filter if it has one and could be fuel pump relay. and or regulator. but the over heating could also be water pump or fan not working. or thermostat stuck closed. due the cheaper things first.

  • Ginny Larson May 24, 2014

there seems to be more than 1 issue happenning. perhaps he crossed plug wires to. also check plug gaps they come perset but if one is dropped it would be not set right and cause rough idle. but the overheating is all by itself a problem needs fixing first it alone will cause it to stall and blow engine.

Why does my 87 reliant stalls when it gets hot.

Yes, the pick-up coil was a common cause of what you describe.
Drive along and suddenly die, but by the time help arrived it would re-start, and run for a while again, then quit again until it cooled down.

Engine stalls while driving. Fuel deprivation?

I am having the exact same problem with my VW Touareg @60,000 miles. Two weeks ago and again today it sputters and stalls shortly after starting. I brought it into the shop and they could not reproduce the problem and said it was fine. Also, they had no ideas when I describes the problem. Anyone know what it going on? I am out of warranty.

Engine quit running , fuel odor drivers side just prior to

My experience in this makes me think that you have a rusted fuel line, at the top of the tank. This is a common problem. I remove the tanks and replace the fuel tank fuel line/bracket assembly quite a bit.

1989 chevy g20 STALLING

Normally on chevy ignition modules when they go bad, they will quit when they get hot & after cooling down will work again, so when you have them tested they have cooled down. I would try changing it & see if it wont fix it.

1989 Ford Festiva, keeps stalling as driving.

I had the exact same problem. The cooling fan was failing to come on and thus overheating the engine. Check the cooling fan, cooling fan thermoswitch, and cooling fan relay ( behind drivers headlight ). If you pull the connector off of the thermoswitch the fan will come on whenever the car is in "run"
