There will be marks on camshaft pulley that line up with marks on engine Google or YouTube for visual. And marks on driveshaft pulley under harmonic balancer

Pepboys changed the timimng belt on my 03 xterra and it makes a whirring noise when I accelerate.Should I have them loosen the belt? I don't want it to blow up after having spent that kind of $$....

Timing belt tension is automatic, there is no manual adjustment. Take it back to Pepboys and have them inspect their work. Keep copies of all paperwork. It may be an accessory belt or component that should have been replaced when the timing belt work was done.

If they say there's no problem take it to another shop for a second opinion but let the original shop see first.

Install serpentine belt on 91 geo storm

I believe this is for 1.8L engine, serpentine belt. If you have a different belt for each component, that is a different issue? With multiple belts, the component usually has a pivot bolt, you loosen the bolt, then move the component to release or increase tension on the belt, then tighten the bolt.
With a serpentine belt, the tensioner does that for you.

Blown timimng belt, how do i retime engine when replacing timing belt

Ok first thing is remove the #1 spark plug from engine, then turn your crank until you feel air push out that cylinder that means you are at TDC (top dead center). You will then set your cams to there settings ( I am not sure if this is a inline 4 or v6) so I can't tell you the marks. But the cams pulley will have marks that will align to marks on the head, The crank will have a mark on the pulley and on the block line these up as well. I like to set the top cam marks first then clamp the belt and pulley together with a small clamp to keep the tension. after that is all lined up install the tensioner and make sure you adjust the tensioner it will have two small pin holes that will need to be turned in order to tighten the tension. ( not to loose or belt can skip, not to tight or belt will wine.) Also if the belt snap while driving you probably bent the valves and will have to do a valve job which requires removing the head,

Do i have to drop the motor to change the belt tensioner?

It may help unbolting the front motor mount and lowering the motor to get to the tensioner thru the wheel well. If it's the DOHC engine. Should be a 15mm bolt holding it to the timing cover.

How to set timing marks when changing the timing belt 1995 kia sportage 2.0liter

There is a DOHC or SOHC (double or Single overhead cam engone. Both are Similar. Both have a notch on back side of crank pully that aligns with a tab on engine just above crank pully looks like a triangle with the tip near crank pully is rounded off. SOHC engines have an arrow on cam pully that aligns with a point at top of timing belt rear housing. about straight up at top of it. DOHC have an I and an E on the cam pullys I for INTAKE and E for EXHAUST. the I and E match up at same type points on top of rear Timing belt housing. When installing belt make sure you do not move pullys. put belt on starting with cam shaft (s) then down to crank on tension side which looking at motor will be the right side or Clockwise direction keeping it tight no, or EXTREEMLY little slack. then back up around tensioner. Tensioner should be the last pully to go around. Once on make sure timing marks still lline up.Adjust tensioner and. rotate engine BY HAND 4 times and re check marks.

Timing belt won't tighten

if you have a 1.8L DOHC you need to buy a tensioner spring.
but if you have a 1.9L SOHC you need to pry the tensioner close to the belt to release the slack.

Let me know if this help you....
