Problem for Chevrolet 1991 C1500

Tilt Steering Wheel has up and down movement

Tilt Steering Wheel has up and down movement no matter what position it is in. I bought this truck new and I know this isn't normal.This just started about a month ago. Is this something that should be taken care of right away? If it is something that can be taken care of at home how hard is it to take care of ? I have replaced the ignition key switch so I know how to take off steering wheel etc just not sure how to get to the rest of the column.

This happens with time to most tilt colums.You must remove the steering wheel,ignition lock cylinder,directional switch and the upper housing,then you will see 4 bolts that are loose,put some thread locking compound on them and reinstall.If you have never taken a colum apart before use a service manual and follow it step by step.If you do not do this soon you may ruin lots of parts!

there are some bolts in the column that work loose in the chevrolet columns. they are a pain to get to most of the time is easier to replace the entire column with one from the salvage yard that still feels tight.
