My 2005 Hyundai Accent (130K miles) keeps saying it's overheating, but when I stop and open the hood to check, it doesn't seem overly hot, and there is no antifreeze smell that I associate with overheating. The car starts fine even when the needle is in the red. Coolant level looks good, radiator fans turn on, and the thermostat was changed last year (though it could be bad). This started April 12, and has become more and more common as the temperature outside increases. It is more immediate if the air conditioner is running. Once in a while over the winter, I noticed that the heat would cut in and out (blower still on, just cool air coming out instead of hot). Not very often at all. Any ideas?
Could be the engine temp switch , have the OBD codes read this should tell you what ,if any where the fault is
The check engine light has not come on. Can I still read a code?
that is a good sign as there will be a code saved so get the OBD read and you will know what's going on
Used the code reader. No codes. Check engine light needs to come on which it never has.
sorry misread your previous comments as "has come on ",as i understand it the temp gauge reads as if engine over heating but no other signs ,if this is the case i'd change the temp sender unit as will be a cheap place to start and as have no OBD to help at the moment i'd do that as a first step , will rule it out as the cause at the very least

Could be a bad sensor. I've seen this caused by a loose connection and may not be overheating in fact. Certainly should be checked out.

You need to check the water pump and thermostate.
It looks like either thermostate get stuck or water pump died.
In a future it can cuse the head gaskette to die due to overheat
So have it checked
There is one good article here about the common reasons for overheating

well it would be a good guess that if u don't see a leak the coolant is going into the combustion chamber through a blown head gasket.

YOUR WATER PUMP GASKET IS LEAKING.ITS NOT SEALING.IF YOU DID USE GASKET SEALANT ON WATER PUMP GASKET IT WILL LEAK.ALSO YOU NEED TO PUT HALF ANTIFREEZE AND HALF WATER.BECAUSE WATER WILL BOIL OR EVAPORATE.WHEN ENGINE TEMP GET ABOVE 212.YOU NEED ANTIFREEZE TO RAISE THE BOILING POINT.SO YOUR ENGINE WILL NOT OVER HEAT.EVERY TIME ENGINE OVER HEAT IT DAMAGING THE TRANSMISSION.I WOULD FIX IT.QUICKLY.CHECK TO SEE IF WATER PUMP LEAKING.YOU MIGHT HAVE TO REMOVE AND REPLACE THE GASKET AGAIN.

Jiggle? Haven't seen that. Maybe your computer is overheating, jokes.
So the car is not losing coolant? Check your fans for operating properly. The AC radiator fan should always be on when the Ac is working. If needle went to high, both fans should have been on. Also clean any leaves or trash or dirt from front of radiator.
