Question about 2006 Toyota Tacoma
My brake lights stay on when I'm driving down the road or I park and leave it. Two months ago I just put an extra spring in to hold the petal at the very top. Now it is on again, want to change switch or even add a drop or two of glue to the top of plunger but can't see how to get it out. Can disconn. harness and split switch but can't even see how top half of switch comes off bracket!
Ok you first need to make sure your pedal height is correct. Pedal height from dash panel:
158.1 to 168.1 mm (6.224 to 6.618 in.)
if its incorrect add another post so i can add details on how to fix it. to remove your stop light switch you need to disconnect the connector and rotate the stoplight switch counterclockwise. When installing a new stoplight switch make sure the body of your car come in contact with the cushion of the switch. Also take special care to make sure the pedal is supported so it not depressed. Then make a quarter turn clockwise to install the stop light switch. the turn torque should be 1.5 N.m (13 in. lbf). Then reconnect the connector and check the protrusion of the rod. It should measure 1.5 - 2.5 mm.
