You might want to take it to a glass shop. You have to take off the inside door panel and find all the screws to do this. Then if it is the drivers door you have to remove any electric switches to remove this panel. Then remove old regulator from motor and put in the new parts. I usually use a piece of wood and a clamp to keep the glass from falling. A glass shop can do it within an hour and you don't have to chase parts.

2001 oldsmobile aurora rear door driver side window glass falls down and does not work with the electric switch

If you can hear the motor running while pressing the window switch you may have a broken clip or something in the way causing the window to slip off track. If no sound comes while pressing the window button you may need a power window regulator motor "OR" the window button itself may need replacing. If the window was down when it stopped working and had to be manually rolled back up, this can cause the glass to randomly fall back inside the door. This is because the car thinks that the window is still down and will continue to fall until it tells the computer that the window was closed using the power window button. If the window falls at just the wrong angle you could end up having to replace the glass as well.

Right rear window is off the tracks. How do I remove the panel?

if the window is off track the regulator is probably bad. to remove the door panel should be a couple of screws by the inside pull handle and possibly one by the door handle itself also check the bottom of the door for any then just pull it off and lift up to clear latches and remove plastic film to get to inside of the door

2001 olds aurora 4dr electric windows down wont go up

If you handy, you most likely can repair this yourself. I have had this happen on two of my Auroras. The window regulators have a nylon part that retains the cable assembly. This part gets brittle as the car ages (really under designed) and the cable end pulls through it.

I have been able to modify the retainer by removing the nylon cover and slicing a little notch to hold the end of the cable. Need a picture here to really show how it's done. In any case, a couple of hour labor and it's fixed for free.

Electric windows

A bit late to the party, but perhaps I can help. GM went to a cable-operated system of window regulator in the late 1990's, saving space and money. Both ends are anchored into a block in the middle that attaches to the bottom of the window regulator, so when the cable winds in one direction, the window goes up, and vice-versa. This block is a composite material, and, over time, it breaks, releasing one end of the cable. You have to replace the window regulator when this happens, and some models have the motor built into the regulator assembly. As with most other GM parts, the regulator costs GM about $12, but it's going to cost you about 40 times that at list price. Combine this with the two hours of labor required to change out the part, and you have an $800 repair bill.

These units aren't repairable under normal conditions, partly because they are put together under tension and the metal parts are then welded together. So, rebuilts are not available.
