Question about 1989 Jeep Wrangler

1 Answer

My Fuel gauge moves from left to right.

I have a 1986 jeep Wrangler and my fuel gauge mocves from left to right or from right to left, stops and then it moves again. I replaced the fuel sending unit and the fuel pump and after I installed the fuel pump and sending unit the fuel gauge did the same as the old unit. Need help to try to see what is wrong.

Have you checked the ground straps to the frame? That's where I would start.

Loosen the bolts and retighten them, or maybe take them out completely and clean 'em up. They tend to lose connection after 20 years or so ;)

if the fuse blew for the fuel gauge, it would keep ALL of your gauges from working, It sounds like your fuel gauge sending unit.

How to check fuel pressure on a 2004 jeep wrangler 4.0. where is the the fuel pressure check valve? they are normaly on the fuel rail, but this jeep does not.

Nope it does not. You need to pull the fuel line from the fuel rail and use a special hose adapter that is installed in between. A gauge is then attached to the adapter and fuel pressure can be read.

check the connector at the fuel pump--if no water intrusion or corrosion is present----you will need a fuel level sensor to correct this problem...have done 10 + in these including dodge products recently---hope that helped out!!

MY 1995 JEEP WRANGLER MOTOR STOPS ALL OF A SUDDEN AS I AM GOING DOWN THE ROAD. IT WILL TURN OVER USUALLY RIGHT AWAY, BUT WILL DO IT AGAIN AT ANY TIME OR NOT. I HAVE REPLACED THE CRANK SENSOR AND ...

I had a problem with a fuel return line that caused my 95 YJ to do the same thing. It was getting flooded after a few short miles, and would not start for a while. You can buy a fuel pressure gauge and check the fuel pressure, if the pressure is to high that might be your problem. I took my fuel return line off after checking the pressure and tried to blow thru the line with my mouth and could not. After dropping the fuel tank I discoverd that my skid plate was dented in, causing the bottom of my fuel cell to be pushed up and the end of the fuel return line (in side the tank) to be blocked. Good Luck, and if that ends up being the problem you may want to replace your spark plugs, they may have been fowled because of the excess fuel.
