Question about 1993 Jaguar XJ6

1 Answer

I have a 1993 jaguar xj6 . It has a problem starting it seems to not lock the wheel when we shut it off and is difficult to start at times. the warning lights don't always come on. after moving the steering wheel the warning lights light up the wiper blade runs and then i can turn the key and start the car. do you have any ideas? Please? I sometimes move the wheel to actually turn the wheels. I was under the inoression the wheel (steering )should lock but it doesn't. After starting it works fine for a while I have driven it elsewhere and started the car withoiut a problem. I park on city streets could ther possibly be a problem with the inertia switch? Today I strated the car finally and reestarted it a few times . The battery seems strong and the lights are bright.

1993 Jaguar xj6 won't start, battery drained of power. Went away over xmas and new years so have not used our 1993 Jaguar xj6 for more than 4 weeks (probably more like 6 weeks!) and battery hence lost all...

Is the car immobilized? if so you may have to lock and unlock the car with the key and not the remote.

Is it turning over or just nothing, also starter motor may be jammed. put the car in gear with the hand brake off and push the car forward until you feel the engine turn over. You dont need the keys in the car!

This should free the starter off, sometimes they jam very tight and will not move at all, on these jags. they get rusty quickly if sat about. I had a XJ many years ago great motors.

Good luck.

Key will not turn in my 1993 jaguar after son messed with door locks

Check the easy issues first.  If steering wheel is locked, it holds pressure on ignition cylinder making it very hard or impossible to turn.  With one hand trying the turn key in ignition cylinder, hold top of steering wheel and try to pull it left and or right, one direction will allow a little bit of movement, allowing the ignition cylinder to be released.  Keep me posted.

Engine starter 93 xj6 4.0 of course

The started is located on the left rear corner of the engine, ontop of the car, not underneath.
If you look in the engine bay down ontop of the transmission on the elft rear corner you can see it.
I do not suggest hitting it with a hammer, most of these started now have plastic gears unlike the older ones.
Usually it wont come to life by hitting it.
