Question about 2000 Ford Expedition

3 Answers

2000 ford expedition emergancy brake keeps not working. I get it fixed and a couple of weeks later it isn't working again. Mechanic says t has something to do with the cable keeps coming out of it's track. Is there a service pack for this through ford or another way to fix this? Also the odometer sometimes doesn't come on right away. Drive acouple of miles and it will appear. It still keeps count when it isn't displayed so I haven't been to worried about it yet.

The frount cable will get water kicked in to them from the rear wheels. The water runs to the bend in the cable (where it turns up in to drivers compartment) and rusts causing teh cable to hang up. WHen this happends the pads will ware and cause your ebrakes to not engadge after a couple of uses.

The solution is to see if the frount cable is moving freely. Closly inspect the top of the cable at the bend for dammage. Replace as needed.

To add a little more to this. If the front cable rusts and hangs up it will cause the cable to loose tension when the peddle returns back up. This could cause the cable to "come out of the track" on the peddle assembly up under the dash and or disconnected from the peddle assembly. (your mechanic may not be feeding you a line) Again the solution is to replace the front cable. I just made this repair as I had the exact problem.

I am a moderately experienced mechanic. I made the replacement in my driveway. Expect a shop to change you between 2-4 hours depending on how difficult it is to get the peddle assembly out from under the dash and how rusted the cables are underneath making separating the front cable from the rears more difficult. The parts are less than $20.00 from rockauto.com.

    Best of luck!!!

I would suggest that you get the lines replaced and never go to that shop again. most shops will "fix" your car because other shops wont touch it if it breaks which forces you back to that shop. if still persists try replacing the e-brake itself.

I checked for a TSB and there isn't one for this issue. I have not heard of it either. If it were mine, I just wouldn't use it. Which cable? Ay park brake or under body?

I dont mean to sound condescending, but first check fuses... if theyre fine check bulbs... then flasher relays... if all checks fine you have a wiring problem and need to do a complete trace.

check your fuses first if the motor is not working. if thats good you'll have to remove the cover where the switch is and you should be able to crank it closed manually with an allen key

Emergency brake adjustment

I have a 2000 4x4 expedition and the parking brake has its own set of shoes. They are located behind the rear disc rotor. You have to remove them to get to the shoes. You will have to release the parking brake to get the rear rotors off.

Main brakes lights wont work

I have the same problem and after a year of trouble shooting I have figured out that my third brake light the one on the top of the tail gate, the lens cover has a couple of cracks and water seeps in and my brake lights work, when it dries out they stop working because the water bridges the power to all the plugs.

So in order to fix this problem I ordered a new 3rd brake light from the ford dealer for about $180.00 as I was not able to find one at a junk yard or online, now my brake work. Also the new light comes with new plugs, lens cover and base so I guess it's worth it.

Check yours for a crack then uninstall it so you could see the melted plugs.

Good luck.
