Sounds like a neutral safety switch is bad or needs adjusted. The switch prevents the truck from being started in gear....maybe try adjusting the shifter linkage at the transmission and see it that helps first.

2000 taurus wont go into drive unless i shut it off then turn it on.

Have the code remove to see why the transmission light is flashing. This might give you some info on what the repair needs to be. Good Luck

My 2001 F150 won't shift into park.... It will shift into every other gear but park. Unless I go under the truck and manually turn the linkage back into park. Any ideas of what the problem may be?

Gday mate, geoff here, now on your shifter if column shift there is an adjustment where it goes down the box from the steering column under the hood and if stick shift should be just under the console, alternitiveley the rubber grommets on the linkage are worn and need replacement, some fuel hose will surfice here if the grommets are unavailable at the parts counter, hope this helped, geoff.

2001 F150 The column gear shifter won't fully engage. The truck won't start unless I rock the truck back and forth

This problem could be caused by a few things, first I would check the shift cable (most common) by disconnecting it from the transmission range sensor (on transmission), and from the ball stud on the steering column. Then have an assistant push one end of the cable fully foward and hold firmly. You then push on the other end making sure no spongyness is present. the cable should feel solid, then have your assistant let go and manually pull cable in and out, should be smooth with no binding, if binding or spongyness is present replace cable. Second, the bracket with the ball stud on the steering column is attached with 3 gold colored bolts that require a t-30 torx socket. These tend to come loose and does not allow the cable to completely be pushed into the park position, so by rocking the truck, the shift bracket is forced into park. make sure these bolts are tight. You might have to put the shift lever in the low position to see these bolts. Third, the cable might require adjustment due to the locking tab at the transmission range sensor not completely locked.

Won't shift out of park unless brake engaged first

This is a common safety feature on most newer vehicles(90 and above). There are some older Toyota cars you can hear the safety lock click at the shifter when you press the brake.

Its there for obvious reasons, but the best is so that a child cannot put a a parked vehicle in gear by accident...and weve all seen people leave the car running before..and leave a kid in there.

Want idle

Hi, I'm sorry you had a bad experience on fixya. You do not have to pay for an answer, but the experts are not employees. We are just volunteers that enjoy helping others. There are not enough of us to answer every question, so we do the best we can.
Your problem does not sound like a fuel pump problem, though it could be part of the problem. Low fuel pressure can also be caused by a failed fuel pressure regulator. Also, failure to idle could be caused by a failed idle air control valve or a clogged idle air passage. I'm willing to help you troubleshoot this problem if you can perform some testing.

from what your desribing your truck shift linkage needs adjusting if it is not starting and this is happening i would first went to the safety nuetral switch mounted on the tranny by your shift lever it might not be lined up because of the shift adjustment try with somone helping you chalk the wheel have some one help you under your truck you should see a nut that holds your shifting arm to your tranny loosen have someone inside hold shift level up tight to get the play out make sure the lever arm on your tranny is all the way either forward or backward in the position it should be in for park retighten nut if the neutral switch is slightly off it will create no start condition good luck
