I cannot find the low pressure fitting to charge a/c system

Its on the top right of the accumulator,look hard its thier,i needed a flash light to see it.its under a black box/mounting bracket at the fire wall passenger side.

I read numerous postings on this. It is very dismaying to look for answers as many mechanics answer with stupid answers, like, "take it in", you can't do it". If we wanted to take it in or didn't think we could do it, then we wouldn't ask :>) You, on the other hand, answered the question and I charged it in five minutes. Thank you for a direct answer. And for all of you who answer a question with a question, save our time:>)

Danger! Always connect the charge fitting to the low side of the system and use the proper refrigerant. All low side fittings have been the same since around 1993. It looks like you are trying to apply the charge to the high side of the system. THIS CAN CAUSE THE CAN TO EXPLODE. Find the low side charge fitting. The low side will have a wider hose or tubing. A 134A charge kit will have the proper fitting to fit your car. The fitting might be hidden but when you find it the charge connector will fit on it.I recommend you use a charge kit with a pressure gauge. On a hot day it should read about 30-40 psi

Charging air conditioner


There is a lot to doing the job correctly, but sometimes with luck you can get acceptable results with minimum expense and effort. It all depends on how much Freon is left in the system.
The repair for a system with remaining Freon in it is a different repair job from a system that is empty. The Freon pressure keeps worse things from happening. You will find a fitting to add Freon on the accumulator(black oblong tank) or on a line close to that part. With the engine running and A/C engaged; you need to check the Freon pressure with a gauge.
If the A/C compressor is not kicking in, the connector on the low pressure switch needs to be disconnected and jumped with a looped wire. Add Freon if you have low pressure. Note the pressure because the low pressure switch has a rated working pressure and weak pressure switches can cut out early.
Fill the Freon to a moderate working level. You want the A/C to stay working longer which it will do when it is charged between the high and low pressure limits.
But if you find that there is zero pressure in the system, at a minimum you need to rent or borrow a Vacuum pump and evacuate the system. Then add Freon with a sealer and a small oil charge. Operate the system and drive 20 minutes minimum to circulate the sealant. Check pressure after 24 hours and top off the Freon charge.
If the leak did not seal, you will need professional help and tools to replace the leaking part. There are leak detectors, but some of the fittings require special tools to change.

Where do I charge r134 coolant? the adapter on can fits the high pressure valve and the low pressure valve is too big? please help..


can't be.the larger port is the HP side, and the hose on your can will only fit the low (small) pressure side-you CAN fill a system on the HP side, engine off, by hooking up to the HP side and inverting the can so that liquid 134a fills the high side-but it is not recommended if you do not have manifold gauges and aren't experienced with AC systems.

How do you add the 134a to a 1997 chevrolet lumina?


Go to wal mart $6.00 a 12 oz can,may need 2 cans. Car owners manual will tell capacity in oz of AC system never charge over that amount into your system, also PSI and ounces are not the same thing

Go to auto parts store buy R-134a charging hose kit with a gage built in.$ 10.00

Turn engine OFF Under the engine hood, is a large aluminum cannister usually on passengers side ,on it or on a hose coming out of it will be a black plastic cap,with a connect fitting under, remove cap, pull and hold back the locking ring on the charging connector and push on fitting. look at gage it will show how much freon pressure is in system, with engine and ac off a higher pressure value will be on gage Start engine and turn ac on cooldest and fan high. The pressure will drop. if the pressure drops below about 22 PSI the ac compressor will stop automatic by the low pressure cut out switch.then the pressure will build above 25 and the compressor will engage again, this is short cycling(no/off) on the low pressure sensor and is a good indicator of a low charge of refigerant(R-134a). Charge according to instructions on kit. When the pressure stays above 28 and the compressor stops cycling off your good DO NOT over charge or you can cause compressor slugging. Liquid into compressor($1200.00 for new compressor)

The "O" ring seals in the ac system dry out when the ac is not in use for over a month and leak the refigerant out again, So Use your defrost setting in the winter because it runs the ac compressor for dehumidifying, but only after the engine has warmed up a little, or with no warmth from engine the defrost will blow freezing air.

Where is the low pressure port A/C port on a 1997 Lincoln Mark VIII. Be more specific than the smaller port on the larger line as the smaller port on the larger line doesn't fit any of the refrigerant...

How can i recharge the air conditioner? Where is the hose located?


Ok if you want to do a home repair in hopes of saving yourself a lot of money and with hopes your system is not in major trouble, here goes:
First step buy 3 types of 1 lb. cans of refrigerant R134a at a parts store, 1 can of leak detector freon combination, and if possible 1 can freon/air conditioning oil combination freon along with 1 can of straight r134a freon.
The store will sell you a charge hose with a cheap type of charge gauge attachment and fittings to attach to your system for the re-charge.
Providing your system is low on freon,First, with the vehicle running and the a/c on full cold, high fan, install the 1 lb. can of freon/oil combo first only charging through the low pressure side of the system never through the thin line high pressure side as the pressure from the high side can enter the cgharging freon can and explode it like a bomb,(this low side line is the larger hose and the low side charging hose fitting the parts store sells you will only screw onto the low side charge valve which is normally marked "low" on the top of the plastic dust cap that is factory installed(hand screwed) on the low side valve fitting.
Secondly after the oil/combo can is emptied into the low side and you of course are wearing mechanics hand protection gloves and eye protection googles, then and only then will you install the leak dector 1 lb. freon can combo.
Third you will install the last 1 lb can of r134a freon, however your vehicle will not allow the whole last pound of freon into its system by means of a pressure relief blow valve that will automatically blow off any excess pressure once the system over fills, the system typically holds approximately 2.75 lbs. of freon.
If you have successfully installed the above freon into the system it should be up and running providing the system is in fairly good working order, by that I mean it may have a very slow leak that allowed the freon tio originally escape in the first place causing you to refill it, and if it does have a leak the leak detector die that you installed into the system should leak out from wherever it may be escaping from, indicating the place of needed repair by means of a red or blue, or whatever other designated coloration the die gives out from the leaking area.
Please note: Not all home charging techniques typically work as there are many mechanical failure factors in an a/c system that may require a certified a/c technician to determine exactly why your system is not working should the home remedy fail.
I hope this helps you and remember to always work safe with eye and hand protection especially around freon gases which become extremely cold and can cause frost bite when contacting with the bare skin.

I want to do ac charge cant see fitting to do this


Ther are two fittings in the system, the low and high sides. You want to charge through the low side. Following the line from the firewall(right side) on the Aluminum expose pipi there should be a fitting. The fitting is larger than the high pressure side and cannot be mistaken. The high pressure lfitting is smaller and on a small steel line coming from the condensor in front of the radiator. Both are accessible working from top of engine.

How to recharge a.c. unit 99 kia sephia


Yes you can recharge it yourself. You have to charge on the low pressure side. Your filler hose will only fit the low pressure side. Follow your hoses until you see a cap (usually blue on the low pressure side) and that will be your charge point.
