Noise from rear-end on jeep chrokee

Hey Dennis,
Have you checked the lube level in the read differential? If its good, you have a wheel bearing going bad. To replace it, you will need to remove the axle.. This is not a hard fix, but you have to have the ALL the tools and you MUST put the rear end up on jack stands..DO NOT use a jack to hold the rear end up.. IF you are not very mechanically inclined, please take this to a qualified professional..

I HAVE A CLUNKING SOUND WHEN CORNERING,& SOMETIMES FEELS LIKE THE CAR KICKS OUT AT THE REAR WHILST CLUNKING.I DRIVE A 1997, GRAND CHEROKEE ,4LTR ,LIMITED.

Clunking noises are generally suspension bushings that went bad. You must raise the vehicle and have the wheels off the ground to check with a bottle jacl and a crow bar to find what is loose. use the crow bar at areas with bushings to pry against to find any play

2004 Jeep Liberty Noise/Problem

if you are driving on hard surface ( sealed roads) in 4wd then don't as if damages the drive train
what is happening is that there is a torque wind up from the front and rear wheels running at different distances and the cluck you hear is when at some point that torque is released and allows the selection to disengage or engage
4wd is for use in slipper conditions unless you have an AWD which will become 4WD when required by you after selection of the control

Grinding noises when 4x4 is engaged

Most likely wheel bearing or cv joint issue. look for a ripped open cv boot. I believe that year used cv joints instead of regular u-joints. Hope I helped. Thanks

Is it full time or part time 4 wheel drive? You should check the front driveshaft u-joints.

4x4 light and knocking noise after driving

If you hear the noise after the engine is turned off that noise is most likely the exhaust system cooling down. As far as the light for the 4 wheel drive that requires a test be run with a special scan tool while the problem is occurring.
