Question about 1992 Chrysler New Yorker

1 Answer

I have a '92 Chrysler New Yorker. My speedometer does not work. I want to figure out how to fix it on my own. I recently replaced the air filter by myself (a proud moment). Given that this was somewhat of an accomplishment would it be too ambitious of me to attempt to fix my speedometer? If it is not too ambitious, where should I begin? Corey

Chances are this is to advanced for you, the problem is probably the cable. A new cable has to be run from the rear of the speedometer to the transmission

Need to know where to buy 92 driver side window regular for new yorker

Lots of suppliers for aftermarket on line, but go to a chrysler dealer and check price there as well. Sometimes Chrysler/Dodge parts are reasonably priced.

I have a chrysler new yorker 92 . i was driving and the gass petal wouldnt accelerate the trans. Then it will kick back in after pressing a couple times. Friend said to try trans. filter first.

Your transmission is slipping and most likely failing. You could try getting fluid and filter changed. But these cars are notorious for the trannys going out. Sorry. Im sure mine will bite the dust soon.

I replaced the battery and now the car alarm will not let me drive the car...its an old car (1994 New Yorker) and I have no way to turn it off

The following stipulates a 92, but it should work for a 94. see: http://www.ehow.com/how_7685998_disable-1992-chryslernewyorker-alarm-system.html

Does the 1992 chrysler new yorker have a transmission sensor?

What type of sensor do you mean? I don't think it has sensors like a more modern transmission as far as the VSS, for instance, because it has a speedometer cable in that place and bands.

I think the 1992 Chrysler New Yorker had an older style transmission that didn't use a computer sensor as far as I read, anyway.

Does that answer the question?

Odometer does not work, but speedometer does work

i actually have this exact problem with my 92, to get the cluster set out is a pain in the ***, but i will try to explain..
first, there are 4-5 screws at the top of the fake wood trim above the guage set, remove them, then remove the top panel, then you'll find another 4-5 screws (top and bot sides) holding the lower piece on, remove them.
once you have the cluser set exposed, remove the 5-6 screws holding it in place, you'll be able to pull the set out, make sure to disconnect all the wires going to the cluseter set, once you have it out, you will need to disaemble it.
if its a needle guage set (like mine) you'll find that each instrument is a "pod" which can be removed, there are 3 - 4 torx screws holding them inplace, simply remove the screws, then pull (fairly hard) and the speedometer should pop out..

1987 Chrysler New Yorker Cluster & Wipers

Yes you will likely need a new cluster. Try a salvage yard or ebay. Check to see if the wiper arm is stripped or for a loose attaching nut. Try oiling the slides of the windows with silicon spray lubricant.
