1995 Nissan sentra cutting out when given gas

I purchased this car a week ago and it drove home just fine. Went to drive it the next day and it was cutting in and out for twelve miles. I stopped and put gas in it and it ran great for another 50 miles then we stopped and went in to the store for a hour and a half and came out it bearly started and chugged the next 50 miles. Got up the next morning and started it. It idles just fine but when you press the gas it cuts in and out. I can drive it around town if i lightly press the gas then if it starts to chugg i release the gas for a second then press it again it will go. I have replaced the plugs, wires, cap, rotor, and fuel filter. the check engine light is on now. i don't have money for the diagnosis at the mechanic shop. I had one mechanic tell it was bad gas but i have put nearly a full tank in and i put fuel conditioner in it. So long story short when it idles it is fine when i give it gas it cuts in and out.

If it is bad gas you would be able to smell it usually. When gas goes bad it turns to like varnish and the smell ( believe me- once you have smelled it) you will never forget what it smells like. If the engine light is on, check the trouble codes. On a 1995 Nissan Sentra it was the first year of OBD 2 systems so it should have a hookup for the scan tool but if you don't have a scan tool you can still retrieve the codes from the ECU or the check engine light.
Under the dash behind the center console is the ECU. You will need to get to it(Don't disconnect it from it's wiring harness ) Just be able to access it and I believe on the side of the ECU isa Diagnostic Mode Selector which you will move to the left and turn ignition switch to on position(not start) and watch how the check engine light flashes. Sometimes it will flash fast and sometimes slow. Then it will repeat. Example a long beep then 4 quick beeps would be a code 14. Write down what yours is and get back with me. Good luck.

I have a 95 sentra and it is doing the same thing...first had a code for exhaust gas recirculation system malfunction po400 and then fixed it where a hose had dry rotted but still didnt help with the car jumping like a rabbit when it is given gas after reaching its operating temerature.....car runs good until it warms up then it only has power for a spit seconds at a time and really creeps along between the engine missfiring and jumping like a rabbit......first.....i had a miss every now and then and replaced the rotar button and then the rotar button fell off inside my distributor cap and then it wouldnt start or do anything and then i replaced the cap and button and used thread lock to tighten the screw on the rotar so it dont come off.....but not the rotar button is on secure and seems to work but when i drive the car and it finally warms up....something is just not right.........Also......the timing chain...i think is hitting the chain guide and im thinking about replacing the timing chain and seeing if the tinsioner is stuck also.....but probably not until after i get the from jumping like a rabbit when i give it the gas......i dont smell bad gas......hope some one can figure this out......later cuz....john, TN.

Go over it, check the air filter, fuel filter, make sure your key isn`t bent. bent keys off set the chip and the car cant read it. next time take out the key and turn it around and try it again. let me know.

I would start with checking the computer for trouble codes.
Sounds like a bad connection in the dash wiring or key switch, but the trouble code might steer you in the right direction.

About 2 weeks ago my check engine light came turned on so i drove home and told my dad about it but when we turned the car on it did not flash. But the the next 2 days it stayed on and the next morning...

Any time you get any check light, you should
be at a repair in a couple of days, or at least
check for codes. Still need it diagnosed and
repaired in a week

Otherwise you waste gas, polute the air or could
cause some damage,as you don't know what the issue
is that set the light

The fact the check light went out, doesn't mean
the problem went away.

Don't clear any codes you find, their needed to diagnose
the system faults
