Question about 2007 Dodge Grand Caravan SXT Minivan

1 Answer

My passenger side sliding door lock does not open automatically. I can manually operate the plunger, but it is a nuisance. I pulled off the panel and found the motor is on the back side of the latch mechanism. When I press the door lock button, I can feel the motor trying to operate, but after the third time or so, it does not work at all. The moving parts are plastic, so I don't think I want to try to lubricate there something safe for this? Should I replace the whole mechanism? How difficult is this task? Is there a way to ensure the problem is the motor? I ruled out the fuse and the child lock, and I reset the auto lock system.

I bought a lock actuator from the Dodge Dealer. Here are the steps I had to take:

    Disconnect the battery.

Unplug the actuator (plug has four slots).

Remove three screws with a T-30 star drill bit. These are the screws that hold the lock mechanism to the door. They are accessed from the back of the open sliding door.

Remove the metal rod from the lock mechanism (the rod that goes toward the front of the door).

Remove a small, silver star-head screw (just one near the upper-right side of the actuator) to detatch the actuator from the lock mechanism.

Attach the new actuator to the lock mechanism, being careful to make sure the metal lock peg inserts into the slider-slot on the actuator.

Screw in the silver small screw.

Re-attach the metal rod to the new actuator.

Re-attach the lock with the three screws in the back of the door.

    Plug in the new actuator.

    Re-connect the battery.

Change the solenoid for the lock mechanism. There's no way to lube those parts.

Passenger door does not lock

Likely the most common cause is failure of the "electric plunger" inside the door.
It could be the wiring or the switch also, somewhere between the driver's door and the passenger door.
A good electrical tester may help you isolate the problem.
If it is the plunger, you'll need to remove the passenger door panel to access it.
God bless your efforts.

Why isn't my right sliding door not opening or closing

If sliding door is electric, that's where I would start, check the electrical circuits for voltage and ground. If that checks out, the issue may be mechanical?
Your owners manual should give you some operational info for the sliding door.

If it´s the passenger side where the gas tank fill is, there is a automatic safety device that locks the sliding door, that prevents to open the door while filling gas, be sure that the folding cover of the gas tank is fully closed and nothing is jammed inside

Sliding door fails to latch

There is no "switch". The Sliding Doors should be manual anytime you try to open or close them. If not: then there is problem in the electronic system or the physical/mechanical side where something is jamming the door from opening or closing.

The fuel door is locked, how to fix this?

Remove the rear panel on the passenger side and then remove the insert that is also located in this same location. That will be the hardest part and that is not that hard. You should be able to gain access to the electric plunger that locks the fuel door. It is located just about midway up the fuel door closest to the rear of the car. Slide it back with your finger, there will be very little resistance and the door should be able to be opened. I hope this helps.
