Does the montero sport 2000 have spark plugs, if so where are they? Also where is the fuel filter located? thank you lisa

Yes it has spark plugs. But it is a very involved job on the Montero. You must remove the aluminum Intake manifold ( upper & middle portion only ) to access the spark plugs. It's best left to a Professional Mechanic to do the job. The cost can vary. Look at atleast $400.00.. Just as a side note. The biggest hassle will be putting all those hoses & wire plugs you disconnected back in the right spot. I would suggest taking pictures every step of the way

I got a diagnostic at Pep Boys that confirmed my suspicion of the need to replace the spark plugs. The technician inferred that it may be too technical for me since the intake manifold needed removal...

It is true that on some vehicles that you
need to remove the upper intake to get
to the spark plugs

You can do it

Also there is no diagnostic test that would
indicate spark plugs were an issue

Do it your self if you want it done right

He was referring to removing the ignition
coils to get to the plugs. Only one scew

They were just pitching work for the shop

Hello,
In order for you to get to the other spark pluggs, the intake manifold must be removed, that's the only solution.

Take care..

I need to change my spark plugs on a 04' Mitsubishi Montero Sport V6. I need to know which bolts to take off of the intake manifold to replace the spark plugs

If you'll need to remove the intake (or plenum) from the engine there are @ 8-10 No. 12 nuts and or bolts which hold this in place. There are also 1-2 bracket (check by the firewall) you'll need to unbolt too. Be certain to replace the gasket that is found between the plenum and the intake and do not over tighten these nut/bolts only 20ft pounds or so. If you do remove this you'll have to remove the air inlet, throttle cables and remove hoses from the throttle body, some of which carry coolant to properlly preheat the air before enteringthe engine. I have worked on several early 89-93 Monteros without having to remove this for plugs; perhaps different under the hood of the sport.
I hope this may have helped,
Tom

I need to change the spark plugs in a 2000 Mitsubishi Montero Sport

I did this two months ago. The upper intake and all attached must come off to get to them. It took me 4.5 hrs with hand tools and the factory service manual.

How do I change spark plugs on a 2002 Mitsubishi Montero, and how long should they last? Thanks.

You have to remove the upper intake manifold to get at the wires and plugs. Mitsubishi recommends 60,000 miles for spark plug replacement, if you look in your owners manual they also want you to replacet the spark plug wires also. Timing belt also at 60K

How do I remove the intake manifold on my 03 montero sport 3.0 ltr? I have to change the plugs and need access. Also will I need to get a new gasket to re-install the intake? I plan on changing the plugs,...

That is all the basic stuff unless you feel you need to change injectors or knock sensor which probably isn't necessary. The intake has about 8 bolts that you can remove after all vacuum lines are disconected. If you would like further detail and illustrations, I suggest go to autozone.com and register for free, then you can view a full free online repair manual

From what I have been reading online... The upper and middle manifold MUST be removed to get to the spark plugs to change them. 3 hour job minimum. should cost between $300 and $500.
