Question about 1996 Ford Windstar

2000 ford windstar

Never was a big fan of the computer, but I feel differently after researching Ford windstar transmissions and seeing just how common this problem is across America. With the economy the way it is, people are trying to hold on to homes . Jobs etc. These vehicles are breaking down at 50k to 75k and costing us thousands. Transmissions should not need repair at these miles. You never hear of foreign cars with these problems. No wonder America is in the condition we are in. If we all could unite on this, Ford would have to acknowledge this as a recall. Maybe we all would consider a Ford product if they accepted some responsibility. In stead they fly to speak before congress and ask for more of our taxpayer dollars. We are screwed.
If we could get 1000 signitures maybe we could spread the word.
My 2000 has 74000 miles and I was just told it will cost $ 2000 for a rebuilt. After reading the hundreds of windstar owner complaints, I fear spending the money as it seems it breaks again and again.
This problem existed years ago with Dodge and I recall them honoring this after congress got involved. Any one feel like a tea party . I am fed up..

When it got cold the reverse stopped working. transmission fluid was low,. does the wrong transmission fluid make a big diff

Yes the wrong transmission fluid make a difference and low transmission fluid also can cause this. Mercon* V I believe is what is used on your transmission, but please recheck that information in your owners manual. Good luck and keep me posted and also note: transmission fluid will cause transmission failure.

Will a transmission #ax4s from 1988 ford windstar fit a 200 windstar with transmission # ax4s

I dont think that will work ....1988 was aod and aode trans

The AXOD-E was renamed AX4S in 1993. In addition to the name change, improvements in the lubrication of the gearset and capacity upgrades were made. A centrifugal piston assembly was implemented in the intermediate clutch position to improve 1st-2nd and 2nd-1st shift quality and an increase in the clutch's durability was made on some models. High energy friction materials were also introduced. A new twin piston torque converter clutch (TCC) was introduced with the AX4S and the AX4N on some models. The transaxle pan on this model will sometimes read "AXOD Metric" since it's based on the AXOD transaxle. The data plate code for this transmission is "L."
The Ford AX4S automatic transmission is a four-speed electronic overdrive transmission used in 1995 to 2000 Ford Windstar minivan. The transmission is also used in 1991 to 2003 Ford Taurus and Mercury Sable, and 1993 to 1995 Ford Taurus SHO models. The AX4S is a second-generation version of the AXOD and AXOD-E transmissions used in 1986 to 1991 Ford Taurus.

2000 ford windstar transmission jumps when i put

If the mounts are okay and you are getting a hard slam it could be the TFT (Transmission Fluid Temp sensor in the trans pan) or the Pressure control solenoid in the valve/control body.
