Question about 1988 Oldsmobile Delta 88

1 Answer

Olds 1988 delta 88 changed harmonic balancer and now odd things happen. Like sometimes when you turn on headlights the windshield wipers come on. Sometimes when idling in park the mileage odometer will roll back. Very weird.

Sounds like a ground issue. Look for any ground points around the area of the engine where you were. There are several bolts that have ground wires attached on the manifold and head areas.

It sounds like you either damaged the crankshaft position sensor or you left it unplugged.

Harmonic balancer went bad, replaced it and crank sensor (also adjusted sensor) now have a ticking coming from area. Car now stalls intermittently, also hesitates on heavy acceleration. Could this be the...

Crank sensor is hitting balancer. One of the interupter blades may be bent. 3800's do not have timing chain or gear problems. Now a 3.8 will. Does yours say 3800 on top of engine? These ar two different engines.
