-the wires are not correctly re-installed for the starter.

When testing starter out of truck works fine, put starter in truck and under load starter stays engaged, rip


Either the solenoid is getting power when it should not be, or the starter drive is not aligned with the flywheel.

Starter not engaging


The starter solenoid mounted on top of the starter has two functions, as the key is operated the solenoid slides the starter pinion to engage the flywheel, THEN operates heavy duty contacts to power the motor. The solenoid is not engaging the pinion.1726daf9-e191-4168-8e99-cab63cae5995.gif

1991 Rockwood driftwood series RV-Starter won't stop


Is the solenoid getting power when it shouldn't be ? Faulty key switch ? The solenoid should only get power from the key switch in the start position.
Was the problem happening before you replaced the solenoid and starter ?

2003 dyna starter turns but wont engage, new battery fitted


Hi Anonymous, lift up rubber boot on positive cable to starter, unplug starter relay wire usually green, with a jumper wire connected to positive battery cable starter stud, touch blade connecter on starter where starter relay wire was removed. If starter engages and turns over engine then your starter relay is bad. If starter activates but does not engage then your starter drive/clutch is bad. Good luck

I own a 2006 Duramax Diesel 2500, with Allison Transmission and would like to know if I can tow this truck behind a Motorhome? Is there anything special I need to do?


Sounds like you should tow the motorhome with the 2500!!

seriously though, if it's a 4X4 make sure the front axle is not engaged, otherwise just make sure tranny is in neutral

just to be safe, check OM or nearest Allison warranty shop for advice

I'd be more worried about the motorhome drivetrain pulling that beast.....

1988 460 motorhome starting problem


When its hooked up, you should be able to put 12 volts on the little stud on the solenoid and it should start. One large stud will have 12 volts on it, so just jump it right there. Did you get the wires in the right place. The solenoid should have 1 large wire going down to the starter. Be sure the battery cables are clean and tight ( both ends) Check battery voltage when cranking, should go to 10-11 volts. Check voltage between negative terminal on battery and engine, should be ZERO when cranking. The solenoid has 2 large studs, make sure the battery positive wire and all the other wires are hooked to this stud, the other large stud should just have the wire going to the starter.

I had same problem in varius trucks and motorhomes with the same engine size (460)and this is caused by excesive heat from the engine in all 460's,when hot if I stoped at a gas station to fill,once I tryed to start it again it felt like the battery was almost dead and bearly turned the engine over.what I did was that I added an after market engine oil cooler and that fixed the problem.

1996 Fleetwood Motorhome Start problem


First before we start buying any parts. Have someone tap the top of the starter solenoid on the pass side engine wall. Do this while you're turning the key.If it starts thats one problem out of the way. As far as the regulator and its condition the coach could have been asembled in several possible states and or countries. I've never seen two alike unless they were lined up at a dealership...lol. Just grab one of those 10 dollar meters and check the voltage at each battery while its running, while it's not running and while you are switched to dual mode.All may be well.or not. But you'll save a lot of time with that little meter.There is no practicle way(being a sealed unit) to actually check the regulator.Keep it simple and take your time. Good Luck. P.S. The alternator also has an internal regulator so run checks with the lights and fans on to make sure your getting sufficient voltage all the time. Thanks, Dana.
