Question about 1998 Honda Accord

2 Answers

My '98 Accord has the same problem; it cuts off then back on...

The car will go days w/no problem, then out of the blue, will take twenty or more tries to start. While trying to start the car it will come on for a second, then cut off like i turned the ignition off; dash lights go off too. Also, while driving the car, it will suddenly turn off then back on again for no apparent reason. Ive replaced the distibutor and it did not solve it. Then I had a new main relay replaced which did not fix it either. The other weird thing the car does which I believe is related is, after driving for awhile, usually w/ the AC going, I begin to hear a high pitched buzzing sound. The car will again begin to cut off and on. Then, when I turn the car off, the power locks wont work and the clock gets reset. I have spent over $500 so far trying to fix this problem, nobody seems to know what to do...PLEASE HELP!!

Either your main relay is defective or you need a new ICM(ignition control module). Take the main relay out and look very closely for hairline cracks on the soldering. Good luck.

Have you had a scan done on it, that should tell you what the problem is.

Lately my accord (98) has been cutting off while driving

Sorry I guess this should have been posted as a solution. Here goes again...I had the exact same problem. After many test and trials, I changed out my ignition switch last month. "MAGICALLY" No more problems!!!! Everything started working normal again. Problem is that everything in that car goes through the ignition switch. Even the battery charges through it. Anyways, I bought an new one from adavanced discount auto parts for $55 installed it myself. Problem solved. If you want to install yourself here is an awesomely detailed link that really helped me: http://www.honda-tech.com/showthread.php?t=2353017
I hope this helps you the way it did me.
