I can be driving and when i stop at a light or stop sign and when i start to accelerate the gas peddle the car will sometimes shut off for some reason.
Have you tried re-starting it in "nuetral" ? I had a Monte Carlo that had a bad switch in the steering column that would shut down the engine when I would be trying to turn left (just slightly). I would just slip it into nuetral and be on my way again - quickly. It would have been really dangerous to try to stop in those situations, luckily it was an easy and inexpensive fix!
Could be the crankshaft sensor, or even water in the gas will do this try a can or two of dry gas first. Is the check engine light on? When was it serviced last? Such as tune up, air cleaner, fuel filter, plugs etc.
Sounds like the fuel pressure regulator. It is not allowing enough pressure to maintain the car. For idle, you do not need as much as taking off.
