Question about 2005 Chevrolet Equinox

2 Answers

I have a 2005 chevy equinox and the air conditioner has gone out already, it this typical that it would go out after only a few years? The only air that comes out is warm. I hadn't noticed any spots under my vehicle, any strange noises or smells. It is the vehicle that we have owned for a short time and the air conditioner went out!

The compressor does seem to be running, it sounds faint, the fan is blowing, I turned the fan from low to high, the compressor made a faint "hissing" sound at first. Thank you for any info you can pass along, sorry if I haven't given you enough info

GM AC units are among the very best as far as reliability goes, so no it is not typical, what is it doing, does the compressor run?

MOST LIKELY U HAVE A REFRIGERANT LEAK AND THE SYSTEM CHARGE IS LOW. U WILL NEED TO HAVE A DYE CAPSULE PUT IN THE SYSTEM AND THEN TESTED WITH A BLACK LIGHT FOR LOCATION OF LEAK.

I forgot to mention in my post below that Dennis is right on for most A/C system issues. My post is in the event that Dennis' solution doesn't pan out.

and GM does have a great history of making reliable components for those systems.

I own two 2005 models.
The first time one A/C went out, I decided to change the compressor myself to save a few dealership bucks.
I was careful to remove the refrigerant slowly and [California] legally.
When I removed the compressor, there was no evidence of PAG oil in it. That lead to the premature failure.
Some time later, the second equinox compressor failed as well and it was devoid of PAG oil too.
GM must have had a hit and miss quality issue with the final stages of their compressor plant in Spain for '05. They were supposed to ship sealed with the correct amount of oil in them prior to attachment to the host engine.
I would not regard A/C repair as a typical user service item as it can be pretty dangerous without some training. There are toxic gasses under high pressure contained within the system.
If you have the compressor replaced, ensure it isn't installed dry and also make sure it is filled only to the required volume as stamped on the compressor case. Too much PAG oil is bad too.
Finally, it's always a good idea to change the Dryer / Accumulator at the same time, its filter may be clogged with shavings from the dead compressor.
Best of luck

How do i check allowable movement in rear drive shaft differential on a 2005 chevy equinox

There is no "cheking"to be done other than what you have done already. The movement,ANY movement, only means the universal joint is shot and needs replaced.I'm sure you've noticed a steady vibration. It's coming from bad U-joint.Replace it.

My brake lights are not working on my 2005 chevy equinox..However, the top one works

Check fuses if you haven't already. They are not all on the same fuse. There may also be an inline fuse. Check your bulbs. Both break lights are on the same circuit. It's possible both blew together.

My 2005 Chevy Equinox LT has a number 1 cylinder misfire. I already had the spark plugs and wires changed. I also had the coil changed and it still misfires. I checked it with my OB2 computer, and it reads...

Have you done a compression check? I had the same problem on an S-10 Chevy pick up. Found that # 3 cylinder had low compression due to a burnt exhaust valve. No more problems after having valve job done on the engine.

What kind of battery does the 2005 Chevrolet Equinox use

The battery in your 2005 Chevy Equinox was engineered to provide you five to seven years of service. In time, the battery will wear down and no longer provide the power needed to start your engine. Sometimes this will happen before five years. For 2005 Chevrolet Equinox all Submodels and all Engines check this LINK:

Hope helps.

Chevy

Emissions warranty is 5 year or 50K miles, but I assume the break was not a warranty item.

Most likely will be a dealer only part. Or a junk yard, but they may not want to canibalize an engine for the EGR tube.

When do I change belts and hoses? 2005 Chevy Equinox

I would typically tell people to change them around 100K miles unless they see problems earlier.  Sometimes you don't even need to do it that often but I'm a huge proponent of preventative mainenance.  Just make sure that your hoses don't have any "soft" spots in them.  Squeeze them all over, especially in the bends.  Hope this helps.  Thank you in advance for an honest rating and for using FixYa!

Where and how to change cabin filter chevy equinox

Hiya...the cabin air filter is located below the front passenger/windshield area.
It's only accessible by standing outside the Equinox with the hood open.
Here's how to do it...(before you pop open the hood)

1) Stand outside at the front-right door area.
2) Just below the front windshield area, pull up a few small black plastic clips that's on the black windshield wiper cowl area- a small flat screwdriver or a special clip-remover tool is handy.
3) Raise the hood up.
4) There may be a triangular-shaped hard foam sound damper at the left side nearby the hood hinge...pull it off if it allow you to work around it with ease.
5) Continue to find a few black plastic clips around the black windshield wiper cowl area.
6) Gently pull up the black windshield wiper cowl cover with care not to bend it too hard during removal.
7) You should see the cabin air filter inside that's held in place by a black rectangular box inside.
8) There's 2 black tabs that holds the cabin air filter in place.
9) Insert your finger or tool to pry the cabin air filter away from the tabs.
10) Remove old cabin air filter.

Remember to reinstall the clip parts back into place when you're finished.
