Question about 2000 Volkswagen Jetta TDI

1 Answer

I have a 2000 Jetta VR6. I was idling in a parking lot, when my a/c switched off, climate control panel blanked out, and my "Handbrake is on" light popped on. AC hasn't worked since, control panel is still dead, and the dash keeps beeping saying my handbrake is on. The engine maintenance thing keeps popping on too. Handbrake is definitely not on, any ideas?

It sounds like the common ground connection for the control panel is electrically broken.
Since the ground path is broken, electrical current back feeds through other things on the control board causing it act like it lost it's mind.

Usually caused by corrosion of the circuit by moisture due to AC condensate collecting in ducts under dash. There is a drain for this and they often plug up causing problems in cabin area. Check this too while you're at it.
If you can get a wiring diagram or schematic, try to jumper out the the grounding circuit with another electrical test cable with small alligator clips on either end.

If problem abates, that's the issue and just add additional wire around the corroded circuit one, which would be very difficult to repair.

SOURCE: I have a 2001 Jetta

Hi, here are some ideas to get some of this stuff fixed:
For the mirror, if it was a glue-on, they make a repair kit for those you can buy at the parts store.
For the A/C panel, check the 25 amp A/C fuse. Not sure if it's in engine compartment or fuse panel inside the car.
For the brake light, check the fluid level in your brake fluid reservoir. If it is low, top it off. If not, you may have a loose wire under the handbrake boot.

Let me know what you find out, and we'll go from there, and thanks for using FixYa.

2000 VW JETTA VR6 lights on everywhere!!

Believe it or not, this could be a mass airflow issue. The mass airflow can trigger the lights the ASR and the EPC lights. When i gets really cold, the airflow sensor sends signals to the CPU to readjust the air/fuel mixture.

After I drive around 30 KM, my 2000 Jetta VR6 's temperature goes up from 90 deg to alarm.

First when it has cooled down, check the water level in the radiator. Then determine it overheats while idling, does the fan turn on?

2000 VW Jetta VR6 My check engine light started flashing. My car was idleing very rough and missing. The parts store checked and the code showed misfire 1. We replaced the spark plugs. It runs a little...

You may have a bad coil pack - try moving two of them around and see if the misfire follows the coil pack or stays at the same cylinder. If it follows the coil pack, get a new one. If it stays in the same cylinder, inspect your spark plug wires and make sure the plug is gapped correctly.

1.1 mm is the standard gap for a platinum tipped plug. Plugs for this car usually come pre-set but it's always worth checking before installing. Hope this helps.
