1998 Dodge Stratus rubbing noise when turning. Sounds like rubber against metal. No popping noise.

It could be several things ....
Wheel bearings - jack the front driver side up. First ... just rotate the wheel ... you should hear NOTHING. Any noise menas there is probably a wheel bearing/hub issue. Now take hold of the tire in the 9am and 3pm positions. Try to push/pull from side to side ... if there is any "play" in the wheel the bearings are going.
Brake line interference - a lot of brake lines have a plastic sheath in the wheel well area ... check to see that the line/plastic sheath shows no wear when you have the wheel off...that might cause the issue.
Steering linkage - even though the upper control arms were recently replaced look at all the ball joints and grab hold of them and see if there is any play/movement.
Repeat on the passenger side..
Good luck on your troubleshooting

I have a 1998 Dodge Ram 1500 W/ 4WD, and a 5.2L engine. When I am driving down a rough road, it feels like my right front tire is bouncing like a basketball. Thinking it was a dead shock, I replaced it...

lower ball joints or king pins do this quite regularly. lift the tire and try moving it in and out on both the top and bottom. look for the slack at the joints.

Ball Joints

I highly recommend that you have a press available, they dont screw in unfortunatly.
To change uper ball joints; Remove tire Pull codder pin and remve nut Tap ball joint out of wheel/ brake assembly Remove upper control arm compleatly Use Press to push old ball joint out of controll arm.
A torch may be nessisary to heat controll arm. Press new ball joint all the way into controll arm Reinstall every thing Get a professional front end alignment.

Good lcuk and hope this helps.
