I did find out that I DO have gas & spark, It turns over fast but will not start.

  • dstange Jun 24, 2009

This not my car I am helping a stranded driver, the car is at my house. It seems like it does turn over fast, I did not pull the plugs. He said that the engine light has been on for a long time, months maybe.

There is a gasoline light on the dash that is on does that have something to do with it not starting? Again this is not my car I am just helping.

  • dstange Jun 25, 2009

Put gas in seemed like it tryed to start once but no luck, the gas light went out.

  • dstange Jun 27, 2009

I will try this over the weekend

Does the check engine light turn on when you put key to 'run'? It sounds to me like the EEC (electronic engine control) relay is not working. This turns on the computer, which in turn controls the fuel pump relay and spark control. I am unsure of it's location. Possibly under the dash by the passenger kick panel or under the hood. This is what I would consider the most likely cause. It is green in color. The fuel pump relay is in the control box above the radiator and under the plastic panel with the vacuum schematic decal.

Does it turn over faster than normal? Are spark plugs wet? When you crank the engine, does the check engine light go out after a couple seconds?

  • Eric Amundson Jun 25, 2009

The gasoline light is for low fuel. It could very well be out of gas. Have you tried putting in just a gallon? You could have fuel, but not enough pressure to start the engine because it is so low. It has to have high pressure (around 60 psi) to start.

  • Eric Amundson Jun 26, 2009

The next thing I would do is check fuel pressure. There is a test port on the fuel rail that looks like a tire valve stem. You need a gauge that fits it and goes over 60 psi. When you turn the key on, it should almost immediately hit almost 60. If not, try one more time. Then, if not, you are looking at possibilities of fuel pump, filter, or regulator.

You could check if you have water in the fuel tank.I had this problem because the filler pipe had rotted and broke off when I took off the gas cap. Then my Taurus would not start, come to find out I had a lot of water in my fuel tank. I drained the tank and blew out all the fuel lines. The car started good after that.

1995 ford taurus not getting any spark from ignition coil

the capacitor only stores energy so when high demand is requested acts like reserve to take load off of circuit until the coil is triggered it will not fire with key in run position engine off check for battery voltage @ coil if voltage is present then it,s not being triggered this vehicle should have grey ignition module either mounted on side of distributor or strut tower/firewall area i would bet this is your problem
