get a Haynes manual. @$20 at autozone. money well spend as you will get lots of use from it if you work on your vehicle

This could be caused by dirty or over-aged power steering fluid, it's not flowing enough when the engine is cold (so the fluid) lack of enough fluid flowing through power steering pump can cause the power steering pump to start whining. The first thing is to have the computer scanned for codes. the check engine light should also be on with the engine idle too high.Scanning for codes is the best first step in finding the problem.
this could be caused by a vacuum leak or bad throtle postion sensor or mass air flow sensor and more.Go to an auto zone or other auto parts store ,they will scan the codes and give you a print out of the codes. get me the codes and i will try to help you solve this problem.
