Question about 1990 Chevrolet K2500

1 Answer

I have an 1989 chevy pick up truck. The truck has an rebult 350 engine. The engine runs good and strong, but when you put the gas pedal down pretty far and fast the truck starts running very rough. Also when this happens, the service engine ligght comes on. The truck will then try to stall. If you just keep it running with the gas pedal just a little down for a while, it will clear up and run good again. Please help, Chris

It sounds like you may have a bad fuel pressure regulator. The fuel pressure regulator is in the throttle body housing and the throttle body in your truck works best at 13psi to 15psi, Any other setting will cause problems. Check the vacuum hose to the fuel pressure regulator at the throttle body and check the fuel pressure at the shredder valve. The way the throttle body works is for the first 75% of the throttle, the ecm uses the signal form the O2 sensors to control the air fuel ratio and tries to keep it to 14.7:1 but at full throttle it by pass the O2 sensor signal and runs the engine richer and advances the timing so you can drive with wings like red bull. The Map sensor then takes over to promote the engine to run richer so you don't run lean and detonation occurs. If there is a problem with your throttle body position sensor, map sensor. and fuel pressure regulator, then at WOT (skinny peddle down) you may be running to rich. The other thing to is if your fuel pressure drops at WOT you'll get a lean condition and then you'll have detonation ( Knocking) and the timing will be turned down to keep detonation from occurring again and that may be the cause if your check engine light too. First and easiest thing to do is change the fuel filter and add fuel injector cleaner to you gas tank, buy a throttle body cleaner and clean your throttle body to make sure you don't have varnish build up around the throttle body, just follow the instruction on the can. Throttle body cleaner not carb cleaner. Start with that and i hope we don't have to do any more to get your truck running like a rocket. Good luck and keep me posted. Be glad to help.

I have a 1990 chevy conversion van,350 tbi,no problem in 5 yrs I've had it . got off hwy few eeks ago engine bogged down, kept stalling,I got stuck and was able to get it moving, running very rough 11

When cold start is on will make more fuel to the engine for warm up. Only makes sense that even after warm up it's still putting the extra fuel into the engine that a heat sensor is bad. Namely the one connected to the MAP. Use your head, not the mechanics with all they're test equipment that are checking the wrong thing. You've put out a lot of cash because they don't know what to check for and are putting YOU through this. They're in it for the money pal. Not to help fix your problem.

My Chevy truck 1989 Silverado 350 will not idle

Check that all vacuum lines are connected on the engine. Vacuum loss can cause this.

Choke ligt on at idle 1986 chevy w/ quadrajet carb

sounds like the float is sticking or may have a hole in it, you can try adding some automatic transmission fluid to the gas - sometimes works if it sticking, check for a vaccume leak - but usually won't overfuel with a leak- but has happend.

1989 Chevy K2500 350 will not restart after warmed up? I have replaced Heads, reset timing 0 TDC new plugs, coil, cap, button, module and pick up coil. Engine starts cold runs great but will not restart...

tdc is usually set at 8 degrees BTDC for an automatic and 4 BTDC for a manual transmission. This may help. Does the engine run rough at start up being set at 0TDC?

Starts fine, idles fine, stalls when put in gear to drive away

Try depressing slightly the gas pedal to see if the engine continues to run when you put it in gear. Might have to depredd gas pedal and brake simultaniusly. if the engine continues to run, then the problem is in the idle circuit. Try decarboning the throttle body and the idle speed control.

I own a toyota 4x4 pick-up 1989 it was stored outside without running for 2 years ,now my pedal clutch stay stick. How can i fix it? Also how can i put oil in the gearbox(transmission)?

I assume the clutch won't release. Put the trans in neutral and start the engine. Let it get warm. MAKE SURE THERE IS ROOM TO DRIVE THE TRUCK, WITH NOTHING IN THE WAY. Stop the engine, put the trans in first, and start the engine. The truck will jump forward when the engine starts. Get it on a clear road, push the clutch pedal in, and hit the gas. It should come loose in one or two tries.
