Question about 2000 Nissan Maxima

1 Answer

Acceleration is shady ... Gears act funny...

I have 2000 NISSAN MAXIMA SE (5 spd manual w/ 158,200 miles)... When first started after hours of not driving, first gear is extremely shady and needs warming upon before it can be engaged smoothly and the RPM's climb just fine, but 2nd, 3rd, 4th, and 5th are very concerning... Flooring the gas pedal in these gears does NOT respond as it should (used to). The car drives faster in these gears when I barely apply pressure to the gas as opposed to flooring it... when I do floor it, it feels VERY odd... PLEASE someone help me as I have already put A LOT of money into car repairs. Thank you.

I would start by checking the mass air flow sensor or put a scan tool and checking live data.long trim and short trim fuel. may need a dealerfor that.

Nissan maxima 2000 replace solenoid/page-2

If the transaxle is all factory original & it does not
up shift as well as has a code & no OD,then you
may as well put it out & rebuild it.

Close to 14 years is great for any transmission.

In the future you change your trans & power steering
fluids every 3 years & at first sign of any trans issue
you stop driving it immediately, drive no more than
5 miles to get home or to a shop or you have what you
have , a $3,000.00 bill coming up to pay

How many labor hours should a shop charge to replace a Starter on a 2000 Nissan Maxima SE?

A reputable shop should not charge any more than an hour and a half labor, and that should include the diagnostic also.

Just started to pull away from a stop in 1st and

sounds as though your input shaft broke, this would cause a loud clunk, cause it to feel as though in gear, and cause no pull.

I cant locate the transmission dipstick on my 2000 Maxima SE

Unless you are having trouble with the transmission, it is not generally required to check the gear oil level in a manual transmission until at least 100,000 miles. However, if you feel keen about, look at the trasmission and locate a plug on the side, part way up. Remove the plug, and stick your finger into the hole. The oil should be right at the bottom of the hole.

2000 Nissan Maxima sounds like its not shifting into 3rd gear

What do you mean by loud... Loud where??? If noise is from engine, make sure that the mechanical fan clutch is not "locked" (it's supposed to freewheel when cold... if it does not, it will "roar" when driving.
