Re: What will my cooling fan only run when the ac is on?
I would say the temp sensor for the fans that is screwed into the cyl head is bad and needs to be replaced. get the new sensor for the fans so you know what your looking for on the engine.

That may be normal depending upon what you are doing in the vehicle. If you have the climate control system set to defroster, most vehicles run the AC system to avoid fogging. Anytime the AC system is engaged the cooling fans must run. Make sure you don't have the AC or defroster on and try again. If the fans still run it could be a faulty fan switch.
cooling fan not running.check for faulty cooling fan relay or fuse.cooling fan fan should be running when you turn on AC.hotwire cooling fan make sure cooling fan motor okay.
check see if cooling fan running could have faulty cooling fan relay or fuse.if cooling fan dont run when ac on car will overheat.AC COMPRESSOR PUT LOAD ON ENGINE.
CHECK TO SEE IF COOLING FAN IS RUNNING.IF NO CHECK COOLING FAN FUSE AND RELAY.THE COOLING FAN NEED TO BE RUNNING WHEN AC ON BECAUSE AIR CONDITIONER PUT A LOAD ON ENGINE.COOLING FAN KEEP RADIATOR AND AC CONDENSOR COOL.FAN NEED TO RUNNING.
You might check the cooling fans on the condenser to see if they are running when the ac is on.If they are not check for blown fuse,or bad cooling fan relay.Do you notice if the ac cools better when running constantly, and the ac is not so cool when in traffic, stopping and going, and running slow?If so the cooling fan,or fans are not working. If the fan fuse and the relays check out fine, then replace the fan,or fans.If I can help any more please [email protected]
your AC cooling fan is not working properly, most vehicle has two fans, one for the radiator and another for AC, both work in sync with one another; if one cooling fan only working it does not produce enough cooling for both radiator and condenser at the same time; by running ac you producing more heat and its cant cool the engine fast enough with one fan so your engine is overheating when running AC. The temperature sensor could be faulty and need to be replace or your fan motor can also be faulty. Check the fuse first and the relay make sure they are not burn out. sensor cost about 30 bucks get it new, relay 35-40 new used 5 bucks at junk yard, fan get it from a junk yard for 25-30 bucks, new will run over 100 bucks. don't run the air and overheat your motor, it can damage your engine or may blow your radiator. if you do run ac watch the temp very closely, don't let temperature get into the red.
