Change back to centre fire plugs as they do foul up like regular plugs do. If you have points then the problem will be the condenser attached to the points . If this condenser is faulty there will be spark to idle but as the rpms increase the coils fail to produce sufficient spark to run because the coils need this condenser to be in top condition to generate sufficient voltage at revs.

2006 mercury outboard opti max 200 engine alarm, (4 beeps). oil was run low, do i need to prime the system or should it prime itself?

The low oil sensor is not "seeing" the oil in the tank...(mine does this when I crank it,, the low oil light stays on).. It uses plenty of oil,,I quit worrying..- -don't feel like taking the oil system apart..
Get one of these.. I have one for every outboard I ever owned..they DO come in handy...

How do you remove the propshaft on a mercury 200 optimax once you have everything off the shaft

go google and type in-- workshop manual for mercury optimax outboard-- there is apage mercury-
which sows manual in pdf form for $4.95 a down load
run through the pages to find the transmission section and if it suits what you want , down load it and have a manual for all the items you need to do
talk with a mercury service shop and get the details of how to do it
I'm sure that you have to remove the leg from the power head so that you can get the selection lever free from the forward/ reverse dog before that gears will come out of the case

1999 Mercury Villager Causes Of High Idle?

usually it is a vacuum leak which is letting more air into the engine. With engine running, use a spray water bottle and mist around all vacuum lines, the power brake booster and engine seams. Then try any vacuum line to the transmission. Could also be a burst vacuum shift diaphram if so equipped.

How do I set the timing on my 1967 Mercury outboard motor? It starts but seems to sound like it has a slight miss, and when you idle down to put it in gear, it dies.

I have seen it done. The shell is removed to the points. A probe is inserted in the cylinder hole for #1. When the piston is clocked to TDC the breaker plate is locked when the piston touchs the probe and provides continuity. Some engines may require a few timing degrees either BTC or ATC. Throw in new points to eliminate the low end miss as weak spark at low rpm may not flow good on worn points.

Relist on outboard motor or boat section of Fixya.

My outboard motor doesn't idle at low rpm's, it cuts off when put into gear.

Could be several reasons for this, poor quality / dirty gas, restricted fuel line either partially blocked or pinched at some point come straight to my mind.

My mariner outboard hard to start when cold

mcdevito75 here, It could be a faulty cold idle sensor, or a leak at the intake manifold, have your local shop check it out.
