Question about 1999 Peugeot 406
Sounds like you have a vacuum leak spray some carb cleaner around the motor when it changes idle you are getting close to the leak put something on the fenders it will take off the paint if you do not feel safe will carb cleaner you can use water but use light mist to much water it very very bad. most likely it is the hose that goes to the power brake or the plastic connection from the motor that the last thing people check after spending to much money trying to fix the problem

Check the fuel pressure regulator for to much pressure.Pull the vacuum hose off the map sensor and if fuel runs out then replace the regulator.
