You start by disconnecting the battery. Remove the fuel-pump, and put back the new one. Use some rag to catch up excess fuel. Safety: be very aware of the wiring conections.!

1996 subaru legacy fuel pump relay location


It's way up under the dash on the drivers side. It's green in color. It will be to the left of the ignition relay which is brown in color.

Replaced fuel pump on 96 legacy wagon. will not start now, it does start if hot wired directly to pump. Any suggestions? Have also replaced the fuel pump relay.


Hi yes had same problem it was the plug that sits under the rear seat that supplys power to the fuel pump it had got hot and was charred inside, just cut it out and soldered wires together and fixed prob hope it helps

Why is my 1996 subaru legacy not getting fuel? Gets fire. fuel filter looks good and fuel pump engages. Any idea?


but if you have no fuel pressure it wont start. Spray some quick start. If it starts then you need to test for fuel pressure. If none or low, replace fuel pump.

Try changing the ignition coil.
The easy way to test this, is turn the ignition on,for about thirty second's ,then feel the coil ,if it is hot ,replace it.

Access panel in rear in trunk. It is under the carpet. Very easy job. Stop at library and look in theservice manual. I am sure you are capable to do this job. Good luck and have a great day.

I have the same problem. It was the camshaft sensor. After replacing the problem was solved. A malfunctioned crank sensor can give the same problem
