SOURCE: 1993 Ford Ranger linkage

Sounds like the shifter cable,if it is and automatic trans. has broken. look at the trans selector under the truck and see if it moves when you select different gears. If it doesn't its the cable

SOURCE: shifting cable/shifting linkage adjustment

Try loosening the nut for the cable. Shift into park from under hood. Put shifter in park and pull cable, push nut towards cable and tighten nut.

SOURCE: 1994 FORD RANGER STANDARD TRANS CLUTCH WON'T ENGAGE

The only adjustment you'll probably need is to get the air out of the clutch line. Loosen the bleeder screw, and put a two or three foot vacuum line on it. Submerse the other end of the line in a bottle of brake fluid. Pump the clutch untill no more bubbles are coming out of the hose into the bottle. Be sure to keep the reservoir topped up while you do this. Hold the clutch down, and tighten the bleeder screw. Some hydraulic clutches do have an adjustment on the rod that goes from the slave cyllinder to the pressure plate. I'm not sure about yours. If there is a nut on the rod, you can adjust it somewhat. You want it set so that there is just a little bit of play between the rod and the pressure plate where the rod goes. If none of this helps, you mayneed to replace the slave cyllinder.

SOURCE: How do you remove the gear shift lever on a 93 ford ranger?

many of these trucks have a mazda trans in them, to remove these shifters you will need to remove the 4 phillips head screws from the corners of the trim around the shifter boot and pull it up out of your way. it's not necessary to remove the boot from the shifter, just lift it up for access to the top of the trans. at the base of the shifter on the top of the trans you will see a plate attached with torx head screws. remove all but 2 of them, now make sure the trans is in neutral and remove the last 2 screws and pull the shifter straight up. the shifter is now out leaving a big hole open on the top of the trans for dirt to fal into so put a wrag in it or screw a piece of cardboard to it. installation is the reverse. good luck

How to unstick an automatic transmission on a 2001 Ford Ranger

Safety lock malfunction? Could be bad electrical connections to the safety lock. Probably bad linkage adjustments, or bushings on the linkage, or shift lever pivot same issue.

Why won't my 2001 Ford Expedition shift into park?

If you Expedition is anything like my '99 Ranger, you have to have your foot on the brake to get it into "PARK". If you are doing that, then you have a transmission shift linkage adjustment problem that can happen if you have had your transmission removed or replaced, in which case I would have the shop that did the work adjust that linkage...no charge.

My 1989 ford f150 will not downshift unless I do it manually.

Could be a vacuum leak. Had a similar problem with an 88 ranger. Or the shift linkage is out of adjustment.

1993 ford taurus won't shift out of park

It may be the sensor or the linkage that goes from brake to tranny. The linkage may need to be adjusted.

My ford taurus (2001) wont shift into park!It seems like the shift itself is hard to move into the other gears! I have the emergency brake on to make sure it won't backout the driveway. Help me please!!

how many miles on the car and or transmission, if it feels like the shifter is binding then the linkage is most likely misadjusted, worn, or bent. usally if its the transmission then you will notice performance problems
