you may possibly find it under the car, back near the fuel tank, if you follow the fuel line out of the tank it should be reasonably close to the tank.
Have not had anything to do with pulsars but a lot of the modern cars have their fuel filters in a similar position

This is common for that transmission, it will eventually lead to 5th gear POPOUT, where it will actually pop itself out of 5th gear... I would get a second opinion to be sure, but looks like a rebuild is near maybe.. :(

Remove bck seat / tank pipes / elctrical wiring plug / unsrew panel and carefully lift out.
NB = Ensure no sparks or you will occupy a hospital bed :)
