That is a classic faulty starter solenoid description , try hitting the starter motor with a hammer firmly 2-3 times, this lets the stuck bendix spring return as the solenoid has failed to do this, then try to start vehicle worth trying a couple of times , if starts then the starter will need replacing

SOURCE: battery is good. clicking sound when trying to start engine

Better solution;
This sounds like it might be a corroded fusible link. Not enough current is getting to the starter.
I assumed you cleaned the battery cable connectors.
Test to see if the headlights will shine bright. (They are on the other battery cable)
The fusible link is generally located in one of the two cables coming off the positive battery terminal. It's a fusible bar that melts at over current. Sometimes the contacts on each end will corrode and need to be cleaned. Trace the cable until you find it. It might actually be in a fuse link box. If so unplug and replug all and see what happens.

Have you tried moving shifter slowly through all gears, especially neutral when trying to start ? Sometimes safety neutral switch will become faulty & some movement of shifter may make it turn over.

Clicking sound but engine won't start

This actually does sound like the battery is low on charge. A battery which is quite low on charge will still light the headlights and run many other electrical accessories, but will not engage the starter (which requires much more power than other accessories).
I would start by making sure that an electrical device, such as interior lights, glove box lights, trunk light or something else has not been left on. Then carefully jump start the engine. It is also possible that the battery might need to be replaced for not holding a charge.

When i replace battery in alfa 146 the key code light on and no starting and i just have the red key and no code card i am in Egypt at holidays times and no agents i tried to disconnect battery for 3...

only soloution is to wait till agent is open as this requires the special diagnostic computer of the dealer to re-programme it ,changing the battery shouldnt make this light or the immobilisor come on but anything is possible with a motor vehicle ,you could try disconnecting the battery again and join the + and the - battery cables together and leave for a while as this may reset the software ,also check the key as you may have lost the chip out of the key inside the key is a little ceramic looking thing this is the memory for the immobilisor.

hey i have done a bit of work with alfa's the problem is if the key malfunctions it will register a code in the computer and even if you fix the key it will not work properly, the best thing you can do is find a dealer with a alfa scan tool and they will reprogram the key... its a quick job that can ONLY be done on an alfa tool and beware you may need a new key, sometimes they just go .

My Alfa Romeo 156 won't start (Selespeed fault)

Had the same sort of problem with friend's 159 2.4 JTD two weeks ago, was towed to the dealers who fitted a new battery for a lot of money. (said the battery was stuffed) Same thing when his wife was shopping last Sat. Jumped started it and took it home, once started being a diesel it drove until switched off. Wouldn't start or even turn over, checked everything over 2 days, I'm a aircraft mech and he's an electrician. Sunday afternoon I said, Back to basics test for power to the starter solonoid - none,
He said, So the solonoid is stuffed,
I said, Test for earth at the starter,
He said, But the starter earths thru the motor.
I connected a jumper lead from the negative battery terminal onto a bolt on the motor, the motor started and ran straight away. Faulty earth strap. Apoligies from the dealer.
Moral of this story - I've owned 3 and currently own 2 Alfa's and all of them at some stage have had an earth problem.
Hook a direct earth from the battery to the engine.
Maybe this can help Howie.

check to make sure yu have 12v at the battery, once you do turn the ignition to start, if nothing, check the fuse and relays that control ignition, if all is good then the click sound is coming from the starter, have the solenoid replace.
