Question about 2005 Ford Focus
I have a fault with my ford focus 2.0tdci zetec. The problem is starting the car, as soon as the key is tunred the engine normally starts however the revs do not pass 2000, within 10-15seconds of trying to accelaerate the car dies and stalls. After a couple of attempts to restart the car and accelerating the revs then kick in and I am able to drive without any further prolems apart from the other day when I tried to pull ou and I got a juddering feeling before agin the revs kicked in. When the revs do go up I get a a fair bit of white smoke then the car seems normal. Also more recently it has had difficulty starting. I have taken this to my local garage who seems to think it may be the erg valve? however I have searched the web and found peole with similar symptoms have had this replaced 2 and 3 times but has not rectified the problem. Any help would be appreciated
Before you end up with a huge repair bill I would strongly advise you to have the fault codes read by a main VW dealer. A faulty EGR valve will show up immediately in this case or the diagnoses will quickly point elsewhere.
Main dealers have the proper software for reading faults stored in the cars computer and it is not that expensive to have this done. Most will do it for around £40 - check with them beforehand of course! Small independents usually have a generic fault reader which is generally quite unreliable at diagnosing this type of fault.
In this particular case the best case scenario is a faulty EGR valve. Worst case scenario is that either the injector pump or turbo is faulty. These can all cause the symptoms you describe. Get the fault read then take the car back to the local garage to have the work done and so save on labour rates.
