Question about 2005 Chevrolet TrailBlazer
You don't have to remove the steering wheel. Remove the column bezel. 3 or 4 screws on the bottom to get it apart. Then insert the key and turn it the run position. The is a hole on top of the lock cylinder insert small rod in it and push down. Pull the key cylinder out. The you can release the switch. The is a special tool to do it, but you can use 2 screwdrivers.

Don't remove the lock cylinder! just break out the small plastic insert inside the upper panel where it slides over the lock cylinder and once its together you will be happy with the ease of installation and the ignition where the key goes in covers up the whole where that little bit of plastic once was

This plate is the steering lock plate. It has a lock ring on the shaft but is under very heavy spring pressure which must be compressed in order to remove and re-install. There is a special tool that compresses this spring. It mounts on the steering shaft threads and pushes on the plate. It is quite difficult without but can be done with two persons as one presses and the other removes the lock ring...good luck

If you are trying to remove the steering wheel to change the ignition switch, then you may not have to. The switch is on the steering column about 1/2 down towards the floor, and has a rod that runs from the key cylinder & locking part. You dont need to remove the steering wheel, but if you do so, I suggest you to take some help from some Paint and Body shop so that they can direct you to do it properly and safely.
Do let me know if it helped.
