SOURCE: Technical tuning specifications for a 1997 Toyota Conquest 1300

Don't know about the 97, but I have a 99 escort, 00 corolla, 00 camry and 98 Suburban (though thats diesel so a diffrent animal altogether)... prior to that an 86 and 88 vw quantum and golf respectively... once electronic ignition became standard, there wasn't much "tuning left to do". Change the spark plugs, wires, cap an rotor, pcv valve, air filter, and fuel filter and I think you did a "tune up". With platihnum plugs an such you don't change the plugs often (like once every 5 years or so... depends on the plug, look in your manual). Get the Bosch warranteed wires from a place with lifetime warranty... remember where you bought them..., anything less will fail...

O2 sensors and catalytic converters can be a horror show. Aftermarket replacement catalytic converters cost a few dollars (about 1/3 of dealer cost) but they contain about 1/5th of the metals needed for catalytic conversion, so they fail in about 1 to 2 years... if you plan to keep the vehicle longer, plunk the money down, of you like replacing the things, get the aftermarkets, again a leftime warranty would be a neat trick, O2 sensors - sometimes you can get away with a 35$ universal from the discount shop, I did nonthe vw's, I did not on the toyotas....

SOURCE: toyota tazz 1300 problem. My toyota

have you checked your oil by pulling the dipstick? does it look deep brown?if so. there is water or coolant present in engine!!do not run the engine.if you see brown sludge on the oil dipstick, there is a blown head gasket.if you open your radiator and you see oil floating in there, suggest a blown head gasket.if you have oil or antifreeze coming out of exhaust, you have a blown head gasket in the motor.oil mixing with the water is never a good thing motor wise. suggest you not run the engine until you get a pro. to see,or you run risk of loosing engine.hope this helps and thank you for choosing fixya.com we are here always to assist the people that want to know for sure,

gaskets and seals can usually be bought as a set from a parts house or Toyota agent. Mechanical parts would be on an "as required" basis

there is no carb. in modern cars, unless...
2005 Toyota Tazz 130
what country are you in, cabs ended in 2006 in far from USA countries.
so that you? in S.Africa or some small Island in the Pacific running JDM cars?
quote, this you?
A facelifted version of the sixth-generation five-door hatchback was made in South Africa as an entry-level model called the Toyota Tazz from 1996 until July 5, 2006. The Tazz was offered as 130, and 160i. It was also sold as a panel van called the Carri. [4]
end quote.

why not post photo of engine.
or get the FSM on this car, factory service manual, at Toyota.
it covers all THAT.
if not a carb, you cant tune it, like a carb , you fix it.

my first idea> give it a tuneup, new spark plugs, filters.
