Have someone check the battery first a low battery can cause this, but so can a bad starter. the battery is the cheaper pert so check it first!!!!!!

You can take out the spark plugs, keep track of your spark plug wire order, try to crank it over see if the engine turns over.

Check voltage on your new battery, some need to charge when new.

check for corrosion on the battery and starter cables.

I have a 1998 saturn sl1..i have replaced the starter twice and the battery once..the first time i replaced the starter it made a clicking noise as it did the second time also...now it won't start again...

change out the starter solenoid some cars have more then one! More then likely you have one on the starter and one under hood. They are round and have two to three posts on them should be near you battery on the side wall. If this is bad it could cause your problem! You can check to see if it is the bad part before you go out and spend the money by putting your key in and turning it but don't start the car then go back under the hood with the key still like that and cross the post on the solenoid with a screw driver. If the car starts the piece is bad, if not it is more then likely something else! If it is not the solenoid let me know and I will help you figure out what would cause this!

i think i know what ur problem is, i think its the relay to ur starter, not the starter itself. if there is a clicking sound when u turn the key that usually means that the relay to the starter is bad. hope this helps u

If the problem occurs after the car has been driven long enough to reach normal operating temperature, the problem is the starter. If the 'no crank' occurs cold, retest the battery.

try getting a new fly wheel installed in your car because it soulds like you have a few ground down spots on it. my buddies saturn had this problem with the starter and he had to change the flywheel and it has worked ever since and that was 2 years ago.

if you have good battery voltage at this time, and when you banged on the starter and then the car cranked over, it would appear you have a defective starter. i would imagine if you replaced it in july of last year that it could still be under some sort of warranty, so i would look into that. either way, it sounds as if you need a new starter.
