How to replace rear wheel studs on a 2008 Chrysler Aspen?

How can I get the wheel studs out of the rear of a 2008 Aspen? There is not enough clearance between the hub assembly and the backing plate.

  • Sounds like the axles have to be pulled to get the studs out. Not that familiar with Aspens but if it wont clear the backing plate the hub assembly has to move out away from it.

You may be right, stuck in my driveway with no hoist available to pull axle. thinking about bending the backing plate out of the way enough to slide them out as I rotate to the bent position. Not many options.

Soak the studs with wd40 leave to soak in they maybe a left hand thread if that dosent work try heating them up with a blow lamp failing that weld a steel tommybar to the stud and it will come out easy

The issue is not enough clearance between the backing plate and the hub assembly. The studs will knock out easily, but I can not angle them out of hub.

Are you asking about the lug nut studs? If so there is enough clearance behind the hub to drive the broken on out and insert the new one. When you tighten the lug nuts it will pull the stud into the hub and seat it .

How to change broken stud on rear axle 1997 ford explorer

I am assuming you are talking about a wheel lug stud. The lug studs are pressed in from the inner side of the drum or rotor or axle flange depending on how your vehicle is equipped. You have to remove the wheel and drum or rotor to get access to the back side. Drive the broken stud out from the front after you have removed the drum or rotor and set the new one in from the back and tap it into the hole until set as the rest are. If you cant get it set all the way you can finish setting it by pulling it into place when you tighten the lug nuts on reassembly. The part should be under $10.00

I need to replace the rear lugs on a 2005 caravan with drum brakes. I can't figure out how to get enough clearance for the lugs to come all the way out.

Start all the wheel studs into place with a hammer and a punch, then you need to find a wide nut that will go over the stud threads without touching them and then put a wheel nut on the stud.Crank the nut down and the stud will pull into place as the nut gets tightened up,use an impact gun if you have one.If you just can't get the studs out, then turn the stud to a place where it has room to come out and beat it out with a heavy hammer, then draw the new ones in as described.
