Question about Cars & Trucks
Your starter may not be shimmed correctly. And it may be under/over torqued at the bolts. Some engines, regardless of make/model, had problems with starters breaking because of the way they mount and have no support at the back end and they "bounce" up and down under normal driving. This problem was most prevalent in transverse (FWD) cars. You might also make sure the starter you put in has the correct number of teeth etc for the flex plate.

If the starter is turning the engine, try re-setting the security system (leave key on till light stops blinking.) If the starter does not turn, you may have some success in re-setting system, if not you need to check battery voltage and voltages in starter system till you find the problem...can be something as simple as a bad connection at the battery. If you need help with further testing, just ask.

Remove the battery terminals and clean them real well and tighten them back on the posts. If you have a bad connection here, you will get the problem you described. When you are done, go ahead and put your starter back in. While you are down there, check the voltage on the thick wire supplying battery voltage to the starter make sure it is 12V. Try to start the car and get back to me.
