The regulations in QLD state that the vehicle has to be registered in QLD almost immediately if you have a permanent address in this state. The exceptions are service personal who are allowed to keep current rego until it runs out and then it has to be registered in QLD. You will need to have a QLD road worthy done and there is a six month rego period available. Any rego period is refundable less 1 month So if you have it regoed for 6 months , stayed for a month then surrender the plates you may claim 4 months refund. Best check it out at a main roads office near you as regulations change on a regular basis.
