Question about 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe

1 Answer

I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe. Can not get it into ready status to pass state inspection. Dealer thinks it may be the on board computer or a short in the wiring harness. Anyone know how much does on board computer costs and where can I find the part?

Just got it back from the dealer and they said the computer is bad. They want over $1K just for the part.

Assuming the computer is BAD?...Anyone VERIFIED it's BAD? Tell you what, VERIFY it's a bad computer FIRST!... then go from there.

Here's your choices... get the part number off the ECU and shop around (junk yards, internet, etc). Then you can decide. OH!, by the way, did the dealership PROVE to you the computer (ECU) is defective and that the new computer WILL FIX the problem?

I have a 2001 Hyundai Santa Fe . on vehicle inspection they got a code P0444 and a P0112. any suggestions on what to change to get it to pass?? thanks

Parts: I assume you have the 2.7 litre engine
I priced the parts at this website:

Santa Fe , Air intake temp sensor, 2.7l $11.28
Santa Fe , Purge valve - 2.7 l $27.56

The air temp sensor is behind the intake surge tank. I do not have a picture of the sensor by itself.

The purge valve is under the car by the driveshaft and looks like this

I do not have specific instructions for replacing these parts, but I think the temperature sensor unscrews. You may want to use a little teflon tape on the new sensor to seal the threads.

For the purge sensor, remove the vapor hoses and unclamp it from the bracket.

For each sensor, the connector will have a tab you have to press to get the connector off of the part.

Let me know if you get stuck or have more questions.

It sounds like a faulty purge canister if it is still under warranty ask the dealer to change it out. If he refuses get another shop to diagnose the problem and show the receipt with the diagnosis on it to the dealership if they still will not repair it report them to the state inspection authorities this is a emission issue and should still be under warranty.

The best thing to do is go to Auto Zone and get your Hyundai scanned for a DTC code. That would tell us which O2 sensor has gone bad. You have three O2 sensors and one of them has gone bad, the O2 sensor sends signals to the ecm to control the air fuel mixture so it will not run to rich or to lean which is causing you to fail the state inspection. Good luck and keep me posted on what the DTC codes are, be glad to help.
