Question about Dodge Nitro
Pls tell me the max towing wieght for this vehicle with a tow hitch and an auxiliary transmission oil cooler, what is the max weight of a trailer i can pull
A Toyota Tundra can pull the space shuttle but stopping on a down grade is a different story. Towing capacities are base upon stability and pulling and stopping but should never exceed the cars weight. unless electric trailer brakes are used . but again if trailer would jack knife it will push your car into a tree without stopping because weight has overtaken control.

Not trying to sound like dodging the question but, If it's not written in your owners manual, your best bet is to call local toyota dealer & ask to be sure. Wouldn't want to guess on that & end up blowing your transmission or engine.

A good rule of thumb is you do not want the tail to be wagging the do, (trailer heavier than the vehicle). My 1987 Chevy suburban pulls a 1969 Airstream 29 foot travel trailer that weighs about 6500 lbs and I have my car loaded with my tools, blocking, and much other stuff and I would guess that it weighs 6500 to 6800 lbs, so about even. After traveling more than 12,000 miles with it and having no problems I believe that I have a good match-up. When going up grades like I-8 into San Diego (have doen that one twice) I down shift the transmission as needed and in second gear doing about 35 mph seems to be best. My 350 has been modified with a new timing chain with setting of cam timing of 6 degrees advance which brings the power curve down to the RPMs range where most of us drive (not at 4500 RPMs).Hope that this helps you.
